"My favorite pizza is from Donato 's. Hands down! Over the years I have probably eaten 100 of them not by myself of course. Donato 's is a family owned pizza business founded in Columbus, Ohio in 1963. Today they have 150 locations in 10 states. However, in the 757 there are only two. They can be found in Newport News and Virginia Beach. Their key to success has been their three part mission create a superior product, hire great people and promote goodwill in business and the community. When I moved from San Diego to Columbus in the 80s I bemoaned leaving the great pizza at The Venetian in Point Loma. I had never heard of Donato 's. However, all it took was my first Edge to Edge pizza and I was hooked. Yes, that 's right, their toppings cover the pizza from edge to edge not just a light sprinkling here and there. In Ohio one can find Donato 's pizza everywhere and I wish the same was true here. I don 't live close to either store. Sooo sad! You need to know that Donato 's is more than just pizza. They have great subs and my favorite is the Big Don Italian and their salads are always fresh and delicious. I have never received a meal that was even mediocre from Donato 's. When I first moved here I lived in Northern Newport News while house hunting. I lived close enough to this Jefferson store to get delivery whenever I craved pizza or a sub. The food was always on time and delicious. I thought Donato 's pizza availability in the 757 was going to be just like Ohio. When I bought a place and moved to the Southside you can imagine my disappointment. Over the years my taste in toppings has changed from The Works to only Sausage and Mushrooms and now to Founder 's Favorite. (The Hawaiian runs a close second). No matter what I order it is always excellent. I love mine with light sauce and extra cheese and I always stop by when I 'm on the Peninsula. Someone please open a store near me!!!!!"
