"This is a real shame to have to review. This restaurant has a cute location and a slightly small, but cozy and nice interior. The good reviews made this a place I wanted to visit as a new resident in town. I have now eaten here twice, once as takeout and again today as a dine-in experience. Both times I have to say the food ranged from below average to genuinely quite poor. During my dining experiences, I ordered Mu Shu Pork, and Mongolian beef. As well as sides of fried rice and egg rolls. The eggrolls are good, peanutty and crispy. Easily as good as most Chinese restaurants, but a bit shy of Chens in Crystal Lake. The rice is perfectly good and average as you would expect for fries rice. The issue is that both main entree offerings I tried were almost inedible. The restaurant tastes like they are using a western cheap brown gravy mix for a lot of their menu items that not only is overly sweet, but lacks any semblance of Chinese food flavor. No taste of hoisin sauce, no sesame oil, no hint of soy or chili oil. It tasted mushy and overcooked and just not really... Like any version of Mongolian pork or Mu Shu I have ever had elsewhere. The most bizarre thing about this is that during my dine in visit today, I heard of the other dining groups in the restaurant with me were either sending back food or complaining about quality among themselves at the same time. I sat quietly and ate, because I was hungry, but the fact that I was not alone in this, matched with the good reviews tells me that this restaurant has recently cheapened it's menu, changed recipes... Something. Edit: Following contact from the restaurant owner regarding the review I do feel the responsibility to clarify that the service was wonderful and the send back I overheard was handled by the staff and I was asked if I was enjoying my meal and I am sure I would have had something else sent out had I requested. I am not one for conflict and opted not to do so because I had already eaten a portion of the food. I appreciate the fact that feedback does seem to be welcomed and taken to heart here. However my stance does stay firm that I was not happy with the entrees either time unfortunately, which I regret to have to say because I love a good Chinese takeout."

"Overall, we had a good time at The Farmhouse. We stopped by the Barrelhouse for a couple of drinks before and walked over to The Farmhouse when our reservation was ready. The vibe of both places was cool but a little hipster (Farmhouse and Barrelhouse) or a little yuppie (the complex at-large, with the boutiques and neighborhood) at times. The menu looked great. We had the carnitas tacos as an app, which were good (nice smokiness and spice with peppers), but unfortunately our two entrees (shepherd's pie and pumpkin risotto) were under-seasoned. So, for the price point, it was disappointing. But, we appreciated the ingredients utilized, and our dessert was yummy. Actually, we had a large serving of the dessert (bread pudding) and were grateful to have some for leftovers. Our server and one of the hosts were great. There was a different staff member though who seemed to not care to swear out loud while guests were still in the main room, which was off-putting. In general, this individual didn't seem very client-focused throughout our time there. Would we go back? Yes. The menu looks that good. But, if our food comes out bland again, we'll probably not recommend it to friends and family. Just aiming to be honest here and am sending my best to The Farmhouse. It clearly has a lot of interest from the community and those from out of town, and I hope our experience continues to be better each time."

"Update: Had a good time today. Their beer selection has greatly increased and there is usually something pretty good. My kid says it's good for 5 stars because he really liked the butter noodles. My pad Thai was huge, I wasn't super crazy about the chicken but I didn't want any shrimp so I might try something else next time. My wife liked the flat iron steak. So, they are on the up swing.Update: Just went for lunch. 2022-03-26 Worst experience yet, normally it's always good. Everything was fine for our food except for my wife's and the service. So first we ordered drinks and an app, and she brought my beer and asked if we were ready to order, we weren't. Later she came back and asked again, but we still didn't have anyone else's drinks... So yeah, that's how it starts. Then we order and my wife asks what's in the salad, but she had to go ask, which is fine but just adds to all this. So we order and my wife gets soup and a salad and bacon, she's trying to eat better and it's really hard here, they don't have many healthy vegetables. When the food finally arrives, everything is placed and later the waitress comes back and ask if we need anything else. So obviously we say we need the soup, and then she says, oh well someone burnt all the soup, so we don't have any, sorry. Um... Really, that's not ok. You wait until the food is delivered , you don't say anything at all, we have to ask, and then you just say sorry, and that was the main part of the meal. Like really, that's it? It might have we'll have been the entire main course and the response is just that we don't have it, too bad for you. I was dumbfounded. It's not ok, my wife tried to say it was ok, it was not ok. I can't believe it. So we ate and tried to have a normal meal, but it wasn't going to happen. In the end the check had both her soup and salad removed, though there was no conversation about that at all. I'm very surprised to see this experience at this otherwise fine restaurant. We will probably not go back for a while now, it just leaves us with a bad impression for sure. Too bad.Idk how I haven't rated this place yet. I've been super happy all times we've been here. The house beer is just ok, however, but they have enough craft variety for me to be content. My kid also super loves that he can get a hot dog and watermelon, so he always wants to go. I've really enjoyed the ribs, the burger, and the umami fries. My wife has always been happy with whatever she gets, too."
