"We were 3 couples together for a pre theatre dinner seated in a smaller room off the bar area. As our meal went on, a party of at least 12, a party of 3 and a party of 2 were also seated in this room. The party of 12 were celebrating a birthday, I believe, and became outrageously loud. We could not hear our own conversations, so a gentleman in our party went over and politely asked if they could keep it down. He was followed by the gentleman in the party of 3 asking the the same thing. The large party was a bit snarky in their reply, but did keep it down a bit, although it was still too loud. We do not blame the large party they have a right to celebrate loudly and we have a right to have a quieter dining experience. The restaurant should have seated us (and the other smaller parties elsewhere and allowed the large party to have the room. I know for a fact that the 2 couples with us will never return to Fishbones, nor will they recommend it to their friends because of this incident. It was the first time at the restaurant for both and both eat out very frequently. Four of us had the Duck Confit which was good, however, a bit too smokey without balancing that flavor. The Lobster with Pea Ravioli was better. On a positive note, the Salmon was fabulous as was the bread basket mixture, the oysters and the salads (although, the burrata and tomato salad should have been served at room temperature not cold! . Our waitress was terrific!"

"FIX THE SALAD BAR For my girlfriend and I, Charlie Browns is a huge favorite of ours to the point we drive well over an hour to their Woodbury location just to enjoy their salad bar and prime rib. There are only two locations left in NJ and we happened to accidentally stumble on their second location in Scotch Plains this last week. We were so excited to find this place and knew we had to have lunch there. Before I get into the huge negative of this location I need to stress that we had an excellent meal and everyone was incredibly friendly from the gentleman who greeted us at the front desk to our waitress. The location is clean and my Prime Rib was perfectly prepared. The huge disappointment here is the salad bar. When you go to the Woodbury location, they have an open salad bar where you can walk around and serve yourself as much as you want. Here, the salad bar is served to you by an attendant. It was explained to us that this change was made during Covid. Okay, understood. However, Woodbury has their salad bar out in the open, so why not put yours back out? Now, credit does need to be given to the attendant who dished out our salads, giving us ample portions of everything we asked for. However, there is something to be said about the experience of doing it yourself, picking your portions, and organizing those items on your plate exactly the way you want. That experience is completely lacking here at the Scotch Plains location. It's a shame. Scotch Plains is half the distance of going to Woodbury. Yet, we are going to choose to drive twice the distance just so we can experience a proper salad bar. I would urge management to put their salad bar back in the open again. There aren't many restaurants left that offer an open salad bar (or any salad bar at all) and what you guys have done here has ruined the experience. "This was not our first visit. We did take out. They do seafood well, but we haven't tried everything. Lisa says the clams in the linguini and red clam sauce were huge and delicious. I love their fish, all the dishes are good. Sadly, on this last visit the fried clams were either over done or cooked in oil that needed to be changed. Since the name of the joint is the clam bar, that was disappointing. Lisa got the golden combo and it was all perfect, except for the clams, of course. Oh, except she wondered about the fish portion of the combo it seemed like someone took a regular piece of fish and ripped it in half. Strange. I got the fried haddock with onion rings and it was awesome. The fish is so light and flaky and the batter is crispy and delicious. Another minus on this visit was the delivery of incorrect salad dressing and no lemon included or offered. Not the end of the world of course, since we were at home, but if we were in a hotel that would have been a drag. They were kind enough to provide napkins and plastic forks and knives, and they tartar and cocktail sauce was more than adequate for the amount of food served. We paid $51 for 2 entrees and a kids meal, which is a good value for what we got, and would have been a great value (no offense Walmart) had the fried clams been done right. There is plenty of parking and it's in a fairly busy area, right near sweetheart corners. The bartender was friendly."
