"It was two years ago in route to the Maxwell concert the Barclays Center for yours truly 's month of birthday celebrations Sho-eBruary in case you were curious. LoL), that we happened to stumble across Kombit. Now two years later in celebration of my bestie 's, the Queen Ronnie 's Ron-Tober Fest , we find ourselves in route to see Bruno Mars. So of course it was a simple decision to go back to Kombit and recreate another exciting night. The restaurant itself doesn 't present itself as a fine dinning experience but please don 't let that deter you, because the food makes up for the lack luster appearance. We decided to repeat what we had the last time. I went with the Gumbo Shrimp $18) and the bday girl with the Goat Tasso $15.95) again. The Gumbo Shrimp has shrimp of course) blended with cut okra, onions and bell peppers stewed in kreyol sauce. They offer Tasso which is fried cuts of lightly spiced meats in the variety of Beef, Goat or Turkey. She went with the goat and both dishes are severed with rice peas and fried green plantains. They were even better then we remembered. Well seasoned and packed full of flavor in every bite. We were offered a complimentary order of Akra with Pikliz. The Pikliz was amazing and packed the punch as it should. It brought back to college memories of studying with one of my Haitian classmates and having homemade Pikliz. From a girl whom enjoys spice and the heat, I simply love it. Now to be fair and honest the restaurant can use some organizing and freshening up. Possible even some additional help, while we were absolutely treated well, it takes a long time for sure and not just for the made to order food but for everything! Just A Note: While I do recommend you try out Kombit you must pack your patiences and don 't come super famished. The wait is very noticeable! If you attempt to dine before your concert make sure you plan a good window of time before the show starts... than add an additional 20mins for safe measure. Just saying!"
