"I began my visit with a cold Kirin while waiting for the chef. After a little while, the bartender checked in with me as the kitchen was being prepared. I placed an order for the J’s Special Burger ($12) and opted to add cheese for an extra $2. The burger doesn’t come with a side, so I ordered the fries extra crispy with wasabi salt. Feeling like my order might take a while, I ordered another Kirin.
When the burger arrived, I noticed it was quite basic—no vegetables at all apart from a side of pickles. However, the fries were hot and crispy, and the wasabi salt added a nice pop of flavor. As someone who enjoys spicy food, I found the flavoring to be more of a mild enhancement rather than spicy. Upon closer inspection, the burger appeared to be a preformed patty and, given that I waited about 30 minutes for it to come out, I wasn’t particularly impressed. It seemed to be a quarter-pound patty with a bun and cheese—fine, but I believe I could find a better burger elsewhere.
Jay's is a nice spot to hang out for drinks with friends or a date, but it’s quite small and intimate; I could overhear conversations around me, so it’s probably not the best place for sharing personal secrets, lol.
To round off my happy hour, I ordered the Soy Sauce Ramen. The broth was incredibly flavorful, though I added some freshly cracked black pepper for an extra kick. The ramen noodles had a great texture, and the fresh scallions were a nice touch. I found it wonderfully satisfying, especially on a rainy day. As it neared 6 PM, Jay's started to get busier, which felt like the perfect time for me to wrap up my visit."
