"Cuzins Seafood and Clam Bar’s New Brunswick operation has been a long time coming, filling the site that was occupied by the much-missed Due Mari. The space is big, with a dramatic bar area and then a large area of tables with exposed brick and interesting woodwork. A couple of things strike. One is that it is noisy – all those hard surfaces bounce the sound around, particularly when busy as it was at 6.00 on a Wednesday. The other is a large glass freezer of joints of meat; this is maybe slightly odd for a seafood restaurant and perhaps somewhat disconcerting for pescatarians.Service was attentive but a little chaotic – they are still settling in so that is not surprising. They were very late with one main, but knocked it off the bill which was a good recognition that there was an issue. There were two big menus, the specials was nearly as long as the main food menu. Bread was decent, maybe a little undecided whether it was toasted or just a bit dry. It was good to arrive with a mix of olive oil, butter, and tomato. Oysters were excellent in flavor. The shucker may need a bit more practice in avoiding fragments being left in the oyster though. Great horseradish as well as other options. For mains we had swordfish and lobster roll. The swordfish had a good flavor, although it lost delicacy through being a bit overcooked. The mash and spinach with it were good in a comfort-good type way. The lobster roll was a bit too busy, obscuring the central role of the lobster. The asparagus with parmesan side was awful. The asparagus was tough. The parmesan was in a big glutinous matt. What should be an outstanding complement (as Salt next door can do) was a failure. And the truffle fries were deeply disappointing – it felt like they had sat around for a while and got soggy. The seasonal pecan crisp of the day we had for dessert was also ordinary. The if it says crisp it should be crisp; it wasn’t. The wine by the glass options were fine although the house prosecco was rather too sweet for our taste. Overall, it was a decent evening with positive ambience and some good aspects. A bit of room for improvement – we will be going back to check"

"FIX THE SALAD BAR For my girlfriend and I, Charlie Browns is a huge favorite of ours to the point we drive well over an hour to their Woodbury location just to enjoy their salad bar and prime rib. There are only two locations left in NJ and we happened to accidentally stumble on their second location in Scotch Plains this last week. We were so excited to find this place and knew we had to have lunch there. Before I get into the huge negative of this location I need to stress that we had an excellent meal and everyone was incredibly friendly from the gentleman who greeted us at the front desk to our waitress. The location is clean and my Prime Rib was perfectly prepared. The huge disappointment here is the salad bar. When you go to the Woodbury location, they have an open salad bar where you can walk around and serve yourself as much as you want. Here, the salad bar is served to you by an attendant. It was explained to us that this change was made during Covid. Okay, understood. However, Woodbury has their salad bar out in the open, so why not put yours back out? Now, credit does need to be given to the attendant who dished out our salads, giving us ample portions of everything we asked for. However, there is something to be said about the experience of doing it yourself, picking your portions, and organizing those items on your plate exactly the way you want. That experience is completely lacking here at the Scotch Plains location. It's a shame. Scotch Plains is half the distance of going to Woodbury. Yet, we are going to choose to drive twice the distance just so we can experience a proper salad bar. I would urge management to put their salad bar back in the open again. There aren't many restaurants left that offer an open salad bar (or any salad bar at all) and what you guys have done here has ruined the experience. Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch Price per person: $20–30 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5"

"Gladstones is a great restaurant I have loved for years. Unfortunately, we had a very poor waiter yesterday evening (Sunday August at Wish I could remember his name I am not one of those high maintenance folks who feels the world owes them the moon stars. I empathize with and enjoy being courteous to wait staff, so keep that in mind as you read this. When I asked about the batter used on the fish chips, he looked me in the eye and said it didn't come with batter, it was pan seared, which is not the case. A waiter who doesn't know a popular menu item? The batter used is light and tastes delicious. After it arrived he neither acknowledged nor apologized for the misinformation. He forgot to bring the water with lemon slices we requested. When we reminded him after the entrees arrived, he forgot to include lemon slices He gave the distinct impression we were imposing on him, and seemed preoccupied with chatting with a group of diners at an adjacent table DOG LOVERS TAKE NOTE: Although Gladstones clearly allows dogs on the patio, he kept taking issue with my small gentle poodle mix Beary (I caught the negative look he gave him). He kept making a point of stepping over my dog (who was lying down between the table and the wall, which naturally made my dog get up every single time and I would have to resettle him), instead of just serving us from the opposite side of the table which had no obstructions and was closest to the restaurant Gladstones, please make sure servers covering the patio do not dislike dogs Even so, the patio ambience and water view are lovely and we will return. However, I will have no qualms about requesting another waiter if we get him again. I actually left a small tip of but shouldn't have left him anything but the truth. And here it is Once we decided to focus on celebrating my retirement and just ignoring his issues, we had a great time anyway"
