"Omar mentioned that this restaurant reminded him of his home country, Syria, though thankfully the building itself was intact. He also told me that the vibrant Middle Eastern music and decor would be reminiscent of Morocco when I have the chance to visit. Although this restaurant is located near the campus, I didn't spot any students there; it seemed to cater mostly to an older crowd. I ordered the chicken shawarma over rice bowl, while Omar went for the kafta kabob platter. We both agreed that the food was quite dry. It improved significantly when I added a generous amount of sauce. Unfortunately, the pita bread was stale. Overall, despite the dry food, the attentive service and authentic Middle Eastern atmosphere—minus the war—made my visit to Phoenician Resto Cafe a worthwhile cultural experience."
