"Have been to Marufuku a number of times, most recently last Thursday on Dec 30th. I have never had anything less than a good experience at Marufuku. The hakata style used is pretty authentic, offering a rich tonkotsu broth and kaedama (noodle refills). They do also have a paitan broth (using more chicken, a less oily choice for diners) and I believe also a vegetarian broth option as well (haven't tried it yet, but I assume a mix of konbu and shiitake to make the broth). I also am very happy with the design sense places into the bowls and utensils, all having a sense of asymmetry that reminds me of a style of Japanese ceramics whose name escapes me. Service was always helpful, friendly, and prompt. The Oakland location also has easy access to Den sake, as the brewery is very nearby in West Oakland."
