"Feeling a bit indulgent, I decided to order the cherry pie a la mode for takeout. However, I didn’t realize until later that I had been overcharged for the rather small scoop of ice cream. It wasn’t a huge amount, but is it too much to expect the correct pricing? I half-jokingly wondered if one of those lawyers from the freeway billboards would consider it a class-action lawsuit! Later that evening, I returned for a late dinner. Traveling solo, I preferred not to leave the casino and drive around looking for food, especially since finding parking on a weekend night can be a hassle. So, I opted for a meal at the Cal. I ordered a ham and cheese omelette at the counter to-go, but was informed they no longer offer takeout. Instead, I would have to sit down to order and then box my own food. Fine, I thought. My order took longer than expected, but luckily, I struck up a conversation with an older gentleman from Hawaii while waiting. Unfortunately, they forgot to bring my toast, which was disappointing. The lady at the counter was so busy that waiting for the toast would have taken forever. I had to make do with pouring ketchup over my hash browns and omelette in an inadequately sized box. After boxing up my meal, I paid and took my food upstairs. Sadly, the omelette was quite lackluster—rubbery and nothing special. It’s disappointing when my own cooking turns out better than a meal I’ve paid for. Overall, I would rate the service and food as C-. Market Street can be quite hit or miss, just like the slot machines in the casino; sometimes you win big, and other times you lose. At least I avoided the increasingly overpriced $19.99 prime rib special, which I don't think is worth it. Thank goodness for that oxtail stew I had on Friday! Chris J., the business manager, suggested I should have spoken to the restaurant manager. I returned at 2:42 PM and waited 20 minutes to talk to them, only to be told they were in a meeting. I found that quite disrespectful of my time—shouldn't the staff inform customers when the manager is unavailable? Finally, at 3:15 PM, I managed to speak with the restaurant manager, who was pleasant and understanding. We discussed the issues I had previously experienced, and he assured me they would be addressed. I mentioned that I only decided to approach him due to Chris J.’s response to my Yelp reviews. It would have been considerate if they had informed me from the start that he wasn’t available, rather than making me wait without knowing why he wasn’t coming out. While it wasn’t the manager's fault, he did his best to resolve the current issue, which I appreciated. However, I doubt the prime rib situation will change unless they start using better quality meat, especially given the $19.99 price tag."

"Discovering Aloha Cafe was a godsend for our wedding. My husband and I had always dreamed of serving Hawaiian Mixplate food at our wedding. After searching for some time, we finally came across Aloha Cafe and scheduled a tasting with Jennifer. The range of dishes they offered were all delicious and exactly what we had been searching for. While Aloha Cafe couldn't provide full catering service, we chose them for our wedding appetizers (including Spam musubi!) and buffet food. The menu featured items such as green salad, Mac salad, white rice, Kalbi ribs, Teriyaki salmon, and Teriyaki chicken. I can't emphasize enough how helpful and attentive Jennifer was throughout the entire process. She went above and beyond to assist us, providing things like banana leaves, bamboo plates, utensils, and bulk dry goods. The banana leaves played a significant role in our wedding decor (we placed them on the guest tables with the appetizers in a nod to Filipino kamayan style). Jennifer accommodated guests with dietary restrictions by creating vegan mix plates and musubis for them. One guest couldn't eat pork, so they specially made a chicken musubi just for them. Jennifer also took great care to ensure that everything was disposed of, set up, and served professionally. Our guests thoroughly enjoyed their meals, which was a departure from the typical wedding fare. My only regret is not being able to eat more! In addition to the catering, the restaurant itself is fantastic. Delicious food and exceptional service. Los Angeles is truly fortunate to have a hidden gem like Aloha Cafe!"
