"Food 5/5 Service 4/5 Ambiance 4/5 I came here for an early dinner at 5pm with a friend. The restaurant had one other party of 2, and was otherwise completely empty. We were seated immediately. My friend, and I were a little overwhelmed by the menu, given the many choices. We asked our waitress for a recommendation and she let us know that they offer combination plates in which we get to choose 4 different things to try. This is what my friend and I ended up getting. Another thing I liked about the menu is that they offer the same things in a spicy and non-spicy option. My friend and I got a few of the same things but she got the spicy version and I got the non-spicy. Overall, I would rate the food 5/5. It was delicious and I was SO full by the end of the meal. My one disappointment is that I had ordered a coffee, which came out in this beautiful jug. I had only consumed maybe 1/3 of the coffee when the waitress came and said that another customer ordered the coffee and she needed to take the jug away. I thought she would take the jug back and pour the remainder of my coffee into a mug or a different container for me. She didn't. She took the jug away, and next thing I see is the waitress bringing that same jug to the other table. I was very disappointed that I paid for the entire jug of coffee and only got to drink maybe 1/3 of it and I was still charged the entire price for it. Knocked off one star for the coffee incident, but otherwise I would absolutely recommend for the food!"

"As an avid fan of Ethiopian cuisine, I often explore different places, and if a restaurant doesn’t measure up to Abyssinian Kitchen, I find myself feeling indifferent. I recently visited five Ethiopian restaurants in Berkeley, and none came close to Abyssinian Kitchen's excellence. I personally love the Asa Dulet and the Siga and Gomen, and while the Kitfo is fantastic, it is quite spicy. Their shiro is amazing as well. I also appreciate that they provide two types of greens: kale and collard greens, along with 100% Teff Injera. The food is exceptional and delicious! I haven’t found a single Ethiopian restaurant that surpasses Abyssinian Kitchen, despite my efforts."

"Traditional Ethiopian cuisine is presented in a simple yet authentic way that showcases the complexity and subtlety of the expertly prepared dishes. The service is attentive and friendly, reflecting the care and pride this family-run business takes in ensuring a positive customer experience. It's an excellent spot to gather with friends who enjoy sharing meals, as there is a diverse range of options available for both meat lovers and vegetarians. The flavors are complex and spicy but aren't overwhelmingly hot unless specified on the menu. Unfortunately, if you're a fan of alcoholic beverages, you'll find the selection of Ethiopian drinks quite limited. Although the menu lists eight types of beer and wine, only two were actually available during my visit. The biggest letdown was the absence of the traditional honey wine, which is essential for a complete Ethiopian dining experience. Overall, it’s a place worth trying and returning to."

"We found this place during the ride and looking for an Ethiopian restaurant and this is located in an area where the at least three other such residual insurance are... This place was full of people who were happy to have beer and chat, and everyone seemed to know everyone. We started to ask if we should have gone somewhere, since no one ate, but once the food arrived, there was all doubt about the rest. All were there because they are friendly, have a great ambience, good service and serve excellent food! They helped us decide how much to order so we did not have order and service was very fast. The place was also clean and hygienic. Very recommended.."
