"My first experience at a restaurant focused exclusively on grilled cheese sandwiches was in Providence, Rhode Island, and it left me absolutely amazed. So when I discovered that Planet Grilled Cheese had taken over the Subway spot in the food court at Melbourne Square, I was thrilled. While this franchise may not be winning any culinary awards, they serve up grilled cheese sandwiches quickly and efficiently. These sandwiches are slightly above average, which might have dampened my initial enthusiasm, but as far as classic comfort food goes, they delivered that nostalgic warmth.
I do want to mention an awkward interaction with the cashier, who seemed convinced I was recording her secretly. It was a peculiar experience to encounter such paranoia from a representative of the establishment. I’m not quite sure what I did to provoke that reaction, and despite my attempts to elicit a smile from her, I had no luck.
Now, onto the food. I ordered the Four Cheese Melt, which features “All-Natural Cheddar, Mozzarella, Provolone, and American Cheese.” Then I tried the Chicken Bacon Ranch, which includes “American, All-Natural Cheddar, Mozzarella, antibiotics-and-hormones-free grilled chicken, smoked bacon, and creamy ranch.” Lastly, I sampled the Ultimate Club, made up of “American, All-Natural Cheddar, antibiotics-and-hormones-free grilled chicken, smoked bacon, fresh lettuce, vine-ripened tomatoes, and mayo.” While these sandwiches may be composed of basic, reheated chicken and bacon, compared to typical fast food options, Planet Grilled Cheese stands out as a step above the average burger joint. There's nothing spectacular, but also nothing particularly bad.
All sandwiches on the menu, just like those that Subway previously made at this location, are claimed to be served on locally baked bread. As the Big Boy puts it, “If you’re craving a grilled cheese sandwich, Planet Grilled Cheese is a solid option. No harm done—just avoid making eye contact with Ally.”"
