"Next, we tried the "Shepherd’s Pie," which was essentially a boat of grease and cheese, scattered with some potatoes and obviously frozen vegetables. The Shepherd’s Pie was, without a doubt, inedible; the grease was so abundant that it made me feel nauseous. I was genuinely disheartened, as my wife and I were looking forward to trying this Irish Pub right in our neighborhood, but we have no plan to return.
Given Hibernia's historical ties to Ireland, we certainly did not expect a meal that could belong on Kitchen Nightmares. The Shepherd’s Pie was overwhelmed by cheese, the meat definitely wasn’t lamb or mutton, making the claim of it being traditional nothing short of false. When I asked for the check, the server noticed we had barely touched the Shepherd’s Pie and asked if I wanted a to-go box. When I declined, she didn’t seem surprised at all.
Even my wife's salad with grilled chicken clearly featured pre-prepared chicken, which was disappointing. It would be fantastic to see this place use fresh ingredients and create authentic Shepherd’s Pie. Until they do, I would advise against dining here.
My wife and I are not food snobs, and I rarely write Google reviews, but it’s disheartening to see a restaurant in the heart of Fleming Island serving such subpar meals. I genuinely hope they bring in someone skilled in preparing traditional dishes."
