"This used to be an easy 5 star rating; I've been a loyal and frequent customer of New China House for about 15 years! They've consistently been my favorite restaurant in this entire area, and the only local Chinese restaurant I patronized that's how much I loved the food I used to get. I absolutely LOVED their Monk's menu (particularly the Monk's Beef (seitan) with Broccoli, which I nearly always ordered), and the Crispy Eggplant! The Vegetable Chow Mai Fun was tasty, too. I also always included the Vegetable Spring Rolls and Vegetable Dumplings (fried) with my orders. Because I'd been ordering the Monk's Beef with Broccoli for so many years, I didn't even know about the Crispy Eggplant until about a year ago... when I promptly fell in love with it, and ordered it repeatedly thereafter (alongside the Monk's). I cannot BEGIN to convey my disappointment when they suddenly stopped offering the Crispy Eggplant. However, I assumed they still had my old favorites... but no! The ENTIRE Monk's category has been removed from the menu! AND even the Vegetable Dumplings have disappeared, too! Alllllll the dishes the only dishes I loved are gone! New China House, say it ain't so! Please bring them back!"

"This restaurant is my top choice. I prefer it over all other restaurants I have been to. I always make sure to visit whenever I can. When I want a nice meal, this is the first place I think of. They have the best variety of food and a wide selection of dishes. The staff is courteous and the ambiance is great. The prices are also reasonable. I happily recommend this spot to my friends."

"I came here for the first time last week. we were turned away and said that the last seating was at 9pm even though they say they close at 10pm. it didn't make sense, but we wanted to try it, so we went back. it wasn't too busy for dinner. the food was so good. we like trying a lot of different things when it's a new restaurant for us. their portion sizes were so much bigger than we thought, and all of the food was delicious! the server was nice and attentive at first, but once we got our food, she never came back over to the table. when we were done and looking to pay, we tried to make eye contact and/or get her attention and she just kept ignoring us. eventually, a guy finally came over to the table to ask us if everything was ok because it was obvious we were trying to get someone's attention. he grabbed to-go containers and cleared the table. we kept trying to have the server come over but she still didn't. the gentleman brought our check and took our payment. it was just so odd to us that she clearly saw us and was standing in the dining room and still chose to ignore us. just not ok treatment. we still left over a 20% tip but next time, I will probably just get take out. they need to do better with treating their guests better. we should be left to feel as is we did something wrong"

"I just witnessed them being totally harassed by a customer who was upset of being asked if he wanted chicken or beef. He might have been drunk or something but doesn?t give him a right to speak that way to them. He called the young lady very bad words that I simply cannot write in this review. People really need to chill. She was just doing her job and can?t help it if she doesn?t know what protein you want. Treat food service workers with respect. They have fantastic food and service here but the customers are just plain rude. Stop abusing the workers we all know these times are hard but here they are being here everyday to feed us. At the least we can give them some respect. I don?t do reviews often but they deserve this."

"I came in on a cold early morning in January afternoon. The menu had plenty of items to choose from. I selected the hibachi shrimp. After I placed my order, I patiently waited in the store's small waiting area. As the minutes passed, I became colder and colder. After ten minutes, I found myself pacing up and down the waiting area to stay warm. I soon when to the counter and asked the cashier how come there was no heat in the waiting area. The cashier said the plexiglass screen that was up to help protect from covid and robberies was blocking the heat from reaching the waiting area. Come on now! That makes no sense in the dead of winter.I suggest calling it in or dressing in layers. The food was good, but this cold take-out restaurant could have been a better experience."

"Lee's has the best Chinese on the west side, by far. I love that you can customize the level of spiciness for spicy dishes. We get the same thing every time: sesame chicken and medium spicy General Tso's chicken. It's consistently good. Service can be hit or miss but the food makes up for it. My biggest criticism is that the side of fried rice isn't worth the extra cost. It's the blandest fried rice I've ever had. Our solution is to just get the white rice and mix it with the entrees' sauce. If you're nearby and craving solid Chinese, Lee's is a great choice."

"I ordered the shrimp rolls which were a nice size, nicely stuffed and very tasty. I also ordered the mixed vegetables with shrimp and brown rice. Unfortunately I didn't care for the brown rice but the mixed vegetables were very tasty and cooked to perfection. I definitely plan on ordering from here again. "My family and I had dinner there. The nearly all of the food was dry or mushy and looked like it was leftover from lunch. No drink refills were offered. The food tasted “off” and unlike other Chinese restaurants. It was honestly the worst Chinese food experience I’ve had. I’m sorry I took my family from out-of-town there. $65 down the toilet. I have never left a bad review about anything, but the food was so bad that I felt like I needed to leave a review."

"I called around 5, on New Year’s Eve to see what time they close and the woman on the phone said 9pm. I called back at 7:30pm to place an order and the phone rang and rang and rang and rang again and again and again but no one picked up. I waited a few minutes before calling again and still no answer. My family and I have been ordering from ChinaTown for a long time and never had an experience like we had tonight. "Should have known from the weird curtain blocking the kitchen, this wasn't going to be good. Egg foo young was mushy and undercooked. Boneless spare ribs were nothing short of a bowl full of grizzle and fat tossed in bbq sauce. "I decided to try a new Chinese place for a special night. Overall I was disappointed in my pickup order, and was expecting much better food based on the favorable reviews and the prices. I paid over $30 for 2 entrees, one with “fried” rice, and an order of cream cheese wontons. The wontons were good, but the rest of the food not so much. The sesame chicken was barely ok but too much breading and it was sitting in over 1/2” of oil in the bottom of the container and most of the pieces were soggy. I poured the oil out before giving to the person it was ordered for. The “fried”rice was nothing more than yellow colored rice with a few peas and tiny carrot pieces and specks of onions. The schezwan beef was the worst. There was nothing schezwan about it, as far as flavor. The strongest flavor was of oil, and I don’t know what kind but it didn’t taste good at all. The beef must have been cheap and soaked in oil to make it tender because it had NO texture of beef, it was just slimy from oil. The vegetables in it were nothing special, didn’t seem fresh. The sauce was terrible. It wasn’t spicy at all and the taste was unrecognizable except for the oil again. I guarantee you the oil they use is very cheap, probably canola. They need to cut back on the oil and add some flavor and good spices. A lot of these reviews have got to be fake, because I can’t believe there would be many raving reviews for their food. I won’t be returning. Very disappointed."

"I was extremely disappointed. I hadn't eaten here since they rebuilt after the fire, and I was hoping for a better experience. Unfortunately, I was disappointed again. I ordered some fried wings and fried rice, but my rice had a strange smell and was soggy. The chicken wings were burnt and greasy. The only decent dish was the California roll. The soup was too salty and the chips were stale. I was disappointed because this place used to be good. I had to take my kids somewhere else to eat. I usually give a second chance, but two strikes is enough for me. The restaurant needs to improve their quality."

"Pleasantly surprised by the food and quick service. Wanted American Chinese and decided to give this place a try despite the reviews— so glad I did! Ordered online and it was ready when it said it would be. Went inside and saw how food was cooked fresh and to order. It was clean and very deliciously smelling. Ordered an appetizer sample and it smelled and tasted fresh and with quality. Got an order of general gau’s for my husband he and liked his meal. The flavors of the lo mein had that wok flavor and I was impressed. The food was fried well but not only. Will definitely come here again."
