"For the past 37 years, Karen and Lyle have tirelessly worked to establish Pioneers Inn as one of the top restaurants in the area, and their efforts have paid off. I visited on a Sunday night a few months ago, and the restaurant was packed - there were more cars parked outside than there are residents in the town! Mary greeted me warmly and promptly informed me about the nightly special (a rocky mountain oyster buffet that evening) and recommended some popular items from the menu. The menu was reminiscent of a church bulletin, listing the opening and closing times (8am to 7pm on select days) and all the specials for the month, including mountain oysters, broasted chicken, roast beef, Salisbury steak, and discounted sides on Fridays. The quirky pricing (ice cream for $1.42, pie for $2.37) and variety of dishes, from appetizers to entrees like chicken fried steak, sirloin, and burgers, impressed me. I typically don't opt for burgers at small town bars, but I couldn't resist trying their bacon cheeseburger - and I wasn't disappointed. The meal was delicious and affordable, and the BBQ fries had a unique seasoning that added a nice touch. Despite its size, Gilead is a lively town with a strong culinary scene, thanks to the dedication of Karen, Lyle, Mary, and the rest of the staff at Pioneers Inn. I wish them continued success in the future!"
