"At least once a week, I take a night off from cooking. This week, my husband and I really wanted something new, a place that we haven 't tried yet and we landed on Peppervine. This was during the week and later in the evening so when got there, we were able to get a table on the patio with no wait. The weather here in Charlotte has been amazing this past week and it 's too lovely to be inside. The patio at Peppervine feels like a secluded little haven. The glass-enclosed fire pit was going and the atmosphere was lively so the evening was wonderful from the get-go. Surveying the wine menu, I noticed an option to be surprised with a glass of wine chosen for you. As it turned out, the wine was chosen by the General Manager and Wine Director for Peppervine, Tommy. He brought a glass of Portuguese Vinho Verde and explained the characteristics of the wine and why it feels, on the palate, like it 's slightly effervescent. Tommy is charming and the wine was delightful. We moved on to ordering, and the preference at Peppervine is that you order all at once and they stage your meal for you. It was nice to order and be done with it. It was staged very well, and our service was excellent. We started with pimento scones, fried oysters from the menu, and their tuna tartare which was a special that evening. All three were perfectly balanced and hit the right notes of savory, bright pops of acidity, combinations of textures, and being very visually appealing. We were a little indulgent on the apps so I went with a small plate for my entre and chose the Spanish Octopus. It is a flavor explosion in the best possible way. The octopus was perfectly cooked and tender accompanied by a beautiful carrot romesco, fingerling potatoes, thinly sliced brussels sprouts, and crispy bits of chorizo. The chorizo and harissa give it just a kiss of spice that, for me, make it something truly special. I cannot recommend Peppervine enough, and we will definitely be going back! Soon."

"4.3 stars. 1st time to visit. Arrived 15m early and was told that they could not find a reservation under our name. They looked and looked and looked. We showed them the text message showing we had confirmed the reservation which helped as they saw that for some reason the system had cancelled our reservation. They sat us quickly afterwards. Luis took care of us during the meal and was on top of things! From answering our various questions to going over the current specials, he did a wonderful job making sure we had the scoop. We ordered the famous cornbread $14 as our appetizer. Moist, slightly sweet, visually appealing, we made quick work of it. For our entrees, my wife had the Skate Wing Sandwich $20 with the garlic fries. It was delicious as she shared a bite. I opted for the Wagyu Beef Cheeks $42 which was succulent and fork tender. We shared an order of Crispy Brussels Sprouts $13 which was tasty though would’ve benefited from better plating maybe in a skillet? . My wife had a Citra Slice IPA draft $8 which she enjoyed too. To wrap things up, we decided to share a White Chocolate Lava Cake $16 . The anticipation and expectation was high as the meal had been good thus far. Unfortunately, there was not much “lava” and the cake was quite dry. The peppermint ice cream atop the cake was flavorful but could not salvage the slight letdown. Overall, dinner and tip ran $147 which was largely due to location Downtown Dallas . If this were in the suburbs, the bill would’ve been $20 to $30 cheaper. Still, Billy Can Can had many good notes and will definitely be worked into the business dinner venue rotation. Thanks again Luis for the stellar service. My wife and I truly appreciated your professionalism. Parking: Ask for Luis E as he was attentive, pleasant and professional."

"Terrible experience as for food. Showed up with reservation booked several hours in advance and then interrogated about when we booked and made to feel lucky they reluctantly actually gave us a table. Reminiscent of a bad Seinfeld episode. Ordered 1 course only, took well over an hour. Randomly sent some appetizer very rich, greasy, unhealthy- all carbs and greasy fried stuff we can't/ don't choose to eat due to dietary restrictions . Would have been nice if they apologized for ridiculous delay and asked what we would like in the meantime. A lot of people are gluten intolerant these days and or just choosing not to eat heavy greasy fried food. Going on 9pm with 7:30 reservation and no edible food...we asked our absolutely delightful server 6 stars for her how long? Food arrived shortly thereafter as we were seriously about to hit Burger King which is a supreme act of desperation on my part. My husband liked his duck entree. My cavatapi was severely undercooked, and portion was priced as main, size was appetizer. I'm 110 female, just for context. Been here before... give every place several chances before I post. We want our local restaurants to do well! Unfortunately, I can't recommend this place. 3x now. The menu is too unhealthy, like in an out of touch kind of way. And this is my field.... I'm an rn foodie with dietitian and French expertise. French is not the best if you want heathy but try La Coquille or La Framboise if you must have French. They have adapted. Our server was the same lady every time, sorry we didn't get her name. But she was excellent, absolutely excellent. And the reason we came back.3x, after previous dining experiences fell seriously short."

"**TL;DR:** It was fine, but definitely not worth $1,000 for a meal for three. The six-course tasting menus with wine pairings were served anonymously and hygienically, but overall, the experience left much to be desired. **Full Story:** My son flew in from his Army station in Georgia to celebrate my 58th birthday, and we had a lovely day watching the Apple Cup. We topped it off with a dinner with my wife at 84 Yesler. I had mentioned our special occasion in my online reservation, but when we arrived, there was no acknowledgment—it felt like just another table for three. We decided to go with the full experience, ordering three six-course tasting menus with wine pairings. Our server took our order politely and then disappeared. The meal, unfortunately, was quite underwhelming. The amuse-bouche was a tiny, split brûléed fig served in a rather uninspired oversized pastry cup with a dab of bleu cheese. It was passable. The second course featured a half of a tiny tempura mushroom—nothing special. The third course consisted of "dry aged salmon" served in a dollop of dashi broth. It was indeed salmon, but certainly not captivating. The fifth course arrived as a dry, petite beef short rib drizzled with truffle sauce. While the concept was nice, the execution fell flat. Dessert was a lackluster mix of caramel popcorn, a spoonful of something reminiscent of sorbet, and maybe some other sweet starchy item accompanied by a couple of slices of blackberry. I struggled to recall specifics after just an hour. The wines paired with the meal were nearly as forgettable. The total bill, which included a 20% tip to spare us the mental effort of calculating it ourselves, came to $949. For the experience we had, it simply wasn’t worth it. Perhaps it might have been reasonable at half that price."

"My husband and I went to 231 Ellsworth last night to celebrate my birthday. He knew I 'd been interested in going, so he surprised me with the reservation. What an evening! Everything seemed to come together to make this a memorable experience. We even enjoyed a brief respite from the intense rain we 've been having a light sprinkle when we walked into the restaurant, and it was dry when we left. There is valet parking in front but we parked across the street in the Walgreens parking lot. The outside of the restaurant is discreet, only a dark blue awning with the restaurants 's name to identify it. There is a nice bar by the windows to the left when you walk in. The dining room is very elegant, with a ceiling reminiscient of the Venetian Hotel 's sky. The service is superb, with a coat check as you walk in, and multiple waiters to make your experience the best it can be. The clientele is a mixture of ages although mostly an older crowd due to the elegance and high prices of the establishment. Most people our age are not fortunate enough to frequent such a place the one other couple that appeared to be in their early twenties seemed to be celebrating a special occasion as well. I did notice one charming elderly couple seated across from us, and I hope that will be Ray and I someday. And the food, oh my the food. Ray and I both had the tasting menu, here is what we had: Amuse bouche smoked salmon with fingerling potato 1st course Nantucket Bay scallops, mango foam, curry vinaigrette, baby beets 2nd course: Big eye tuna, foie gras, shabu shabu 3rd course: Baby red abalone, uni essence, celery tempura, vadouvan oil 4th course: Pomegranate glazed duck confit, almond crumble, parsnip milk, pomegranates 5th course: Squab breast and smoked legs, prunes steeped in Earl Grey tea, fingerling potato tostones 6th course: Beef short ribs, rutabaga confit, mustard caramel, parsley salt 7th course: Turtle tart of soft caramel, candied hazelnuts, Godiva chocolate ganache, bourbon ice cream I enjoyed a glass of champagne at the beginning since it was my birthday. We brought our own bottle of Sarah 's Vineyard Syrah which paired wonderfully with every dish. Each course was delicious, not a single one disappointed. Indeed, we had a hard time deciding which was our favorite because we enjoyed them all so much. Ray 's top choice was the squab breast, while I enjoyed the beef short ribs the most. The sweet salty mustard caramel was delectable (I mopped up the rest with some fruit and nut bread they brought to the table) and the beef was so tender you could cut it with a fork. We both enjoyed the turtle tart exceedingly so many desserts in restaurants disappoint but this one did not. Mine was brought with a tiny candle placed in a two bite almond cake, which was a nice touch. We were also given two glasses of champagne to celebrate my birthday how nice! The best part of this meal is that Ray enjoyed it just as much as I did we both agreed this was one of our best dining experiences together, and we 'll certainly return on another special occasion when we can splurge."
