"Chez Lévèque is located just in front of the very famous Léméac restaurant. While Léméac offers classic French cuisine intelligently reformulated up to date, Chez Lévèque offers classic French cuisine as we did 25 years ago. The prices are also lower, which means that a good second, Chez Lévèque succeeds in standing out and not suffering too much from the presence of its august neighbor. The waiters are dressed as if they were in a Parisian restaurant: impeccable white shirt , black jacket and red buckle. Coming back from the men's washroom, I am going to talk to the owner of the place who is sitting at the bar and who has just passed behind the bar. He's wearing a pretty wrinkled jacket that needs a pressing. I told him, in a low voice, so as not to be heard from the neighbors, that there is a strong smell of urine in the men's toilet and that it is hardly bearable. His answer seems quite surprising to me: The thing is possible! he said to me, which leaves me unanswered. Fortunately, the meal was very good and at a very good price if we stick to the table d'hôte and the specials offered by the house: mussels, snail, braised veal, mashed potatoes, chocolate fondant, excellent cream Tarragon ice cream accompanied by an excellent glass of St -Emilion. Next time I come back to Lévèque, I will go through the Léméac toilets!"

"This was a restaurant I was excited to visit again. My last visit was one year ago and worthy of 3 1/2 stars. I returned at the recommendation of friends who had a wonderful experience sitting at the bar watching the oyster shuckers work their magic while enjoying wonderful food. I wanted that kind of night. Unfortunately this evening's experience was not as good. I should have known right from the moment I walked in. It is one those restaurants that make you feel as though you are not worthy to be there. I asked for a seat at the bar and was told it was "reserved". There were at least 10+ seats at the bar unoccupied all evening. Why didn't I listen to my in inner voice that said "leave now!". I have no concern with the food, it was excellent. I started with a dozen oysters that I subsequently learned were $51. They were from Connecticut; and I believe flown in each with their own first class seat. I then had a scallop risotto that was delectable. The service was awful. Indifference is probably the appropriate word. I paid $260 for a meal for 2 and honestly believe I would get better service at a fast food establishment. I am not concerned that the waiter had no knowledge of the 9 different types of oysters served at an "oyster bar", or the items forgotten on the order, or not serving the wine until 3/4 through the main meal, all of which is excusable and understandable. It is the utter indifference to attending customers that is inexcusable. I found that I couldn't wait to end the evening. I have eaten in many fantastic restaurants all over the world and am happy to pay a fair price and tip well. Quite frankly frankly this place wasn't even worth the time I have spent reviewing it here. Save yourself the frustration and go elsewhere."
