"I have tried to eat here multiple times over the last 9 months without success, even though they were supposed to be open each time I attempted to stop and there was even an “Open” sign out once (but locked door). The large space was pretty desolate for its size at the peak of Sunday brunch time, but it worked out for us to be seated quickly by a kind and attentive hostess. The theme seemed disjointed, landing somewhere between “southern farmhouse” and “Creole French”, but not hitting either particularly well. Beyond that, the menu had plenty of options and it would be easy for even a diverse crowd to find something to attract their variety of palates. Our waitress Angie was very quick to greet us, kind and accommodating, and waisted no opportunity to check in with us and ensure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. The “Verde” sandwich largely lacked flavor, aside from the bread. The “Peach Bourbon Chicken and Waffles” were more flavorful and the fried chicken was wonderfully crisp; however, the peach bourbon purée was more like a peach juice and lacked any bourbon notes. The waffles were waffles nothing particularly noteworthy about them and certainly not the best or worse ever made. Finally, the mimosas, while not on the drink menu, were sufficient. Just the right balance of OJ and sparking wine again, not particularly noteworthy but not disappointing. Overall, if 3.5 stars was possible, I’d land The French Market right at the top rung of the average scale. I will likely return if I happen to catch them at the right time again, but my expectations will be appropriately set."
