"Do not waste your time or money here. I came here for brunch on a Saturday with 3 of my friends and we were all very disappointed. We were greeted promptly and the ambiance was lovely minus the army of flies), but other than that, everything else was terrible. We ordered our drinks all of us ordered wine so shouldn 't take longer than a couple minutes to pour and bring out) and one of us had to go get up after about 15 minutes to go ask for our drinks. The waitress said, oh sorry the bartender is just now pouring them. We watched multiple other tables sit down after us and get their drinks before us. The second issue we ran into was 2 people ordered the salmon Benedict dish, which clearly states on the menu that it comes with an English muffin. Our waitress brought them both out without an English muffin. When I asked her where the English muffins were she said, Our salmon Benedict is the only one without the English muffin. So I pulled up the menu, which again, clearly states that they do in fact come with an English muffin. When I showed it to her she said, Oh my chef thought they didn 't come with an English muffin, but I 'll let him know. She did bring some out to us eventually. Our third issue was my friend ordered garlic fries and she received normal fries. Instead of bringing her garlic fries our waitress brought her a side of garlic! She did not even acknowledge the fact that she messed up at didn 't ring in garlic fries. Our fourth issue was that our Benedict 's were severely overcooked. I have never ever eaten a Benedict with a yolk cooked this much. Both of ours were basically hard boiled eggs. Our fifth issue was asking her for water multiple times and then eventually having to ask another waitress for waters. In the end, she gave us our checks and gave us a whopping 15% off $2.70 total off my bill) and never acknowledged any of the above issues. I do have the name of the waitress however, I do not wish to call her out. Hopefully she can get it together and realize that her terrible service is causing the Lafayette to lose business and a good name. Overall, all 4 of us were highly dissatisfied with our experience and will not be returning."

"I recommend arriving early since the restaurant opens at 4 PM. It's best to get there before 5 PM unless you're prepared to wait in a compact waiting area that reminded me of an elevator in the Empire State Building. We kicked off our dinner by sharing Focaccia Bread (photo: [hidden link]) and the $18 sautéed seasonal vegetables, which were fresh from the farmers' market—broccolini, cauliflower, mushrooms, romanesco, and cherry tomatoes (photo: [hidden link]). It was a lovely, healthy start leading into our individual pasta dishes. Jamie opted for the restaurant's signature dish, the $17 Tagliatelle al Sugo, accompanied by a couple of their large meatballs (photo: [hidden link]). The pasta was simple and fresh, very thin, and topped with a rich tomato sauce. It was light but satisfying thanks to the moist meatballs. I chose the more decadent $27 Pappardelle Bolognese (photo: [hidden link]), which is renowned for its eight-hour-stewed beef and pork shoulder ragu that envelops the noodles. The pappardelle was wonderfully velvety and provided an indulgent, meaty experience. You might think we'd be completely full at this point, but we couldn't resist splitting a $13 slice of Tiramisu—a delightful handmade dessert that was surprisingly light (photo: [hidden link]). When we left, the crowd was overflowing out the door, reinforcing the need to arrive early. Overall, I’d rate the experience as follows: FOOD: 4 stars—authentic homestyle cooking with generous portions AMBIANCE: 3.5 stars—always crowded SERVICE: 4 stars—our server was attentive TOTAL: 4 stars—I'll definitely need to return more frequently, but I’ll remember to come early!
