"Next, we ordered a bottle of wine. After showing the waitress which one we wanted, she returned three times with different options that were not what we had requested. For our meals, I chose the prix fixe New York Strip cooked medium rare with escargot, while my wife opted for the duck with goat cheese and artichoke salad. After about ten minutes, we received bread and butter. Our appetizers arrived twenty minutes later. The salad was good, but the escargot were poorly cleaned and gritty, making them inedible. When we informed the waitress, she said a manager would come to assist us.
The manager arrived and dismissively said, “This has never happened in our restaurant before,” before handing us a replacement plate of escargot that was smaller than the original. The new dish tasted watered down, and it was clear the kitchen had just washed the old plate and reheated it with new sauce. After another forty minutes, our main courses finally arrived while we sat sipping wine and finishing two baskets of bread. My New York Strip was overcooked to the point of being rubbery, and the cut was full of fat with no trimming whatsoever. The duck, instead of being the half-duck described on the menu, consisted of two dry legs.
After talking to the manager again, he told us, “The New York Strip is an end cut and can’t cook evenly; it’s medium rare in some parts and sometimes ends up well-done—sorry.” When we raised our concerns about the duck, he took it back and then returned, placing it on the table and angrily tearing it apart with his fingers, insisting, “Look how juicy it is.”
Finally, we asked for the check, paid for what we had eaten, and left. Looking back, I regretted not just walking out instead of putting up with that experience. This was, without a doubt, the worst dining experience we have ever had, despite having dined in many countries around the world. The manager or owner—whatever his role was—was the rudest and most obnoxious person I have ever encountered."
