"A bit of a disappointment knowing there were several options in the area. Food was not great, preparation presentation quite mundane. Serving staff were not very friendly seemed very pre-occupied. Food portions were on the small side the order was incorrect when delivered. We preferred not to mention this. It was a special occasion for us was recommended. I would mention this restaurant to others, but would caution them. This may have been an off night but since we are in the area fairly frequently we will try the other restaurants prior to returning to see if it was in fact an off night for this restaurant. Too much Garlic potato not enough entree our opinion."

"Located on the outskirts of west Harlem, this immensely popular BBQ joint is well worth the schlep and deserves all of the positive reviews! A family member recommended this place and we all decided to visit, and we were all deeply impressed despite all having highly variable tastes. We shared the brisket sliders, Creole deviled eggs, BBQ chicken wings in various flavors, and several combo platters, and everything was heavenly. All of the meat was cooked slowly so as to soak in the flavors, and this gave the meat a rich quality that's hard to find. One of our party was vegetarian and ordered the BBQ mushroom reuben, which was also really good not all meat restaurants know how to prepare a good vegetarian dish, but this place did very well. Also, we tried the BBQ Banh Mi out of curiosity, and the interacting flavors made for a delicious sandwich!"

"I go here often, and want to support their business and it 's with a heavy heart and even heavier stomach I have to say that their food is alright but I would avoid them completely on sundays, during any busy time or near closing. Every time I order food during one of these times my order is either wrong, undercooked/messed up or i literally get food poisoning (im up at 4 am completely sick from their food as i write this. One time my farmer 's mac and cheese advertised with pulled pork and caramelized onions came with raw onion (gross and a giant piece of gristle pork in the middle. I 've gotten multiple pork burritos that have made me sick, and I 've had quite a few burgers that were so undercooked i had to spit my bite out and throw the entire thing away at home after paying. I now exclusively order food from here medium well/well done because if you don 't they will serve you food that 's almost cold inside. Even my well done burger was almost too rare to eat. I understand that it 's a fad to have rare meat but when someone says MEDIUM they don 't want RARE. It 's not even safe to consume ground beef or pork that 's undercooked and yet it 's served to me constantly from this restaruant after paying 20 or so bucks. I 've had to almost completely stop ordering chicken or bacon because i 've gotten raw bacon numerous times and either undercooked or woody chicken EVERY TIME. I don ' 't understand how the quality control can be so poor. I 've been eating here consistently for years and it 's baffling. I can only hope this feedback will get whatever needs to be gotten in line because if I get sick again i am changing this review to say avoid at all costs. As it is, take it from someone who goes here often the food is a GAMBLE. I hate to have to say that but that 's my experience. All the wait staff are great though, the service has been good every time i 've been there but the kitchen either needs someone new in charge or better safety standards because it 's not reasonable to get food poisoning this much from a restaruant. The tables are very grimy and sticky constantly also, i don 't think it 's from a lack of cleaning because i always see the wait staff scrubbing away at the tables before people sit down. The whole restaruant kind of has a dirty feel to it and not in a rustic folksy way, more like a did the health inspector actually do their job? kind of way. *EDIT* i forgot that if you get side portions of certain sides (cole slaw for example they try to give you a tiny plastic container of cole slaw (maybe 2 bites total for 3.50. every time i 've caught it, i 've asked them for an actual appropriate amount of a side, but i HAVEN 'T caught it many times because i shouldn 't have to check to make sure my food is correct EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. *edit 2* the owner responded and said they moved on from their last kitchen manager 4 hours ago, but the bad food i ate was 12 hours ago so unless they moved on this morning i find this highly suspect"

"Sadly as locals attending an event on the strip we were excited to try Virgil’s. Unfortunately is was not good. Not only was the food brought to us cold but our server didn’t come check in. The brisket was not even warm and very rubbery. The trash ribs were cold as well but at least eatable. Ironically for a BBQ place the only thing arriving to the table hot and tasty was the veggie tacos our teen ordered. Our teen and I both order costly iced teas that were empty before food was delivered and no one came around for a refill. After reading some other reviews we realized this is an on going experience and customers blamed for not bringing it up to staff. This is terrible as our server was MIA for 20 minutes post food delivery. Bussing staff came and asked if we were finished and we said yes. Only at that point did our server come over and offered us our check if we were ready! I will pass this review to locals and visitors alike as it’s important to spend money at places wanting to do better and deliver excitable service. As a person in customer service for 25 years, the customer should never be to blame for poor performance."

"Our server was pleasant. However , not due to her error, we waited an hour before we were served appetizers. Add another 20min plus when we got served our food. My husband and son order $50 steaks and they tasted like they came out of the microwave. It was the worst steak they ever had. We ordered strawberry shortcake to go, and when my kids opened up the whip cream whwn we got home, the whip cream was moldy. We spent $350 for food at this place and will never return and won't ever suggest for anyone to go there. It's unfortunate"

"The food was reasonably priced. There were a few unusual things that happened with our meal. Drinks were not refilled, the servers were talking loud enough behind the counter that they distracted several patrons. The staff seemed to get along well,but maybe too well as several tables were waiting for service, including ours. The biscuits and sausage gravy was very good.The sandwiches were great. The Italian was probably our favorite. The menu promised ?kettle chips? but we were servedmarcelled. The atmosphere was pleasant. Whoever owns it takes great pride in creating a welcoming atmosphere with attractivedecor."

"I would probably vote this our best meal of our trip to the keys. It 's casual, but service is more on par with more upscale places. We started with wine for hubby and a key lime margarita for me, which was delicious! I had the yellowtail snapper fixed Hemingway style and hubby had Mahi matecumbe style. Both were divine and the freshest fish! The chefs here know what to do with seafood! The sides were basic salad, fries, corn, coleslaw but all well prepared, fresh and tasty. We split a slice of key lime pie. I 'd say it was a bit sweet for me and would have liked more tartness, but it was enjoyable. Great service, great food, and friendly people. Highly recommend the Fish House."

"My experience was less than stellar. Three times I have gone to Juniper Grill trying to try their spit fired chicken. First time they were out. 2nd time, I asked immediately, and the waitress tried to hold it, but they had just run out. The third time there were 4 left, the waiter asked to hold one for me, but the kitchen gave it away. Three strikes this place is out. I ended up ordering a campfire chicken sandwich on Ciabatta. The ciabatta was so stale that it was inedible. The French fries were delicious. My husband's fish tacos were nothing special. Service was good other than the wine was so cold I had to warm with my hands to appreciate it. French fries are not enough to make me try a 4th time for spit fired chicken."

"Staff was amazing. Ambiance is one of the best. We dined outdoors. I come to Mackinac Island every year and the landscape of the Iroquois is my favorite, even over the Grand Hotel. Prices are up there but the food is good. I have had worse, I have had better. $360 with tip for 5 (no alcohol and one ordered off child menu) I did order the double lobster tail and a dozen oysters so I am sure that played a roll. I do not regret it."

"We had a party of 8. Celebrating a birthday. Everyone loved their food and the prices were reasonable. We had 3 kids with us and our waitress was great with them and didn't make us feel uncomfortable or unwelcome even when they got rambunctious (as 3 boys ages 4, 9 and 11 will do). They brought out a brownie sundae for the birthday person and sang to her."

"Great place, great food. My family and I go here regularly as the rest of them are vegetarian. Merit successfully breaks the stereotype that vegan food protein is missing, and that the only thing that vegans eat is salads and is hands down one of the best restaurants in Santa Clara County. Food: I had most of their menus and it never disappointed me. The variety of specials they always leave something new to try to bring me back. Some of their dishes lack gravity and can be very dry, so if you order more than one dish, make sure that at least one engraving has. My favorites are the Spicy Delight and the Golden era, of which I would highly recommend to get if you have never before in Merit. Your desserts are all milk-free and ice-free, but you really can't say it; my vegan dessert exploits cannot hold a candle to the cakes they bake. However, they are frozen and in a refrigerator in the dining area that I really do not like to see, but at least they are open about it. Service: Service is always fast and all service employees are familiar with the menu. All waiting times are reasonable and I have never been hungry to regret the waiting period. Staff really try to help what I can't say about many of the restaurants I was. The ambience: nothing to complain. Everything is well lit, and there is always enough room to eat. Overall: If you are looking for a vegan restaurant that is slightly different than usual, or just a good restaurant in general, Merit is and always at the top of my list!"

"One of our favorite places to eat!I have had take out MANY times and have eaten in the restaurant about half a dozen times.The food is well above average, and the menu is extensive. One of the things I really like is that they have dishes that you really can't find in other places. One of my favorites is the shishito peppers. They are a mild pepper, not hot at all... they blister them and serve them with a delicious lemon sauce. They are really quite good and a unique item I have never seen before anywhere in the area.They make a great pizza as well! Other recommendations are the fish tacos, fish fry, and the pastas as well. And they always have a really good specials selection.The only thing I could say as a tiny negative is that sometimes their burgers are a little underseasoned...which is not at all a big deal that's what salt is for. Underseasoned is wayyyy better than over...Inside the restaurant is a very comfortable place, the servers are speedy and attentive. The only detractor is that if the place is full, it can get rather loud."

"I've visited this restaurant several times. Always busy and always good service and food. First time I've sat at the bar. I had a beer, she had the Mermaid Water and we shared the fried pickle appetizer. I had one of the specials which was the cheeseburger egg rolls. The pickles were flavorful and crispy. I wasn't expecting much from the cheeseburger egg rolls but I wanted to try them anyway. I was pleasantly surprised. They were quite delicious. The restaurant was clean. Love that the restaurant is themed around the local high school. The Hornets. The decor is on par!"

"The service was AMAZING, the ambiance was excellent, unfortunately my meal was very disappointing. I ordered the filet with lobster meat. It was supposed to come with mashed potatoes and mixed veggies (but I asked for just broccoli instead of mixed veggies). The broccoli cooked by either steaming or boiling but by the time it reached the table it was a cold soggy mess. I also didn’t receive the mashed potatoes that was listed on the menu. At least the steak was good and the lobster was EXCELLENT. The Oreo cookie cheesecake was also a hit at our table. Besides the broccoli and lack of mashed potatoes I wouldn’t change anything."

"We made a reservation through OpenTable for our first visit to this restaurant. I wish I had specified a dining room, but since we weren't familiar with the place, I didn't know. Unfortunately, we were seated in a booth at the bar, right next to a party that was happening. All evening, we had people standing right against our table, which was quite uncomfortable. I was really just hoping for a pleasant dinner to celebrate my husband's birthday. Our poor waiter couldn't even approach the front of our table to check on us; he had to reach out and shout from the corner. We spoke to the manager, who did remove the cornbread and one other $5 item from our bill. Unfortunately, we won’t be returning."

"We just picked up a $70+ order to go and didn 't even leave the parking lot before we checked our food to make sure it was complete. Opened up the seafood saute meal and this is what $20+ buys you I guess. 4 pieces of shrimp thrown into a container with lemons. You can see from my review history I NEVER give negative reviews. We attempted to bring the order back for a refund and were declined because the food left the building . Bad food, bad service. Also, online has a price of $13.99 listed for the seafood saute, ended up being charged $19.99 and I didn 't say anything because I figured they were pandemic prices. I wouldn 't pay $8.99 for the meal pictured."

"Enjoyed the Hot Mess Burger with Garlic Fries! I really enjoyed the flavors and heat of the burger, most should enjoy it without too much fuss. I personally like more heat but flavor and temperature was spot on!! Garlic fries were crinkle cut style Must have served me some from the warming tray. Unfortunately only warm and garlic flavor wasn't as pronounced as I have heard. Normally I eat all fries first but not this time. But I hold hope that next will be much better. Offered for a fresh one but I declined. Though the teen said that I must have let them sit too long. He was young so no big issue. I simply informed I generally eat all fries before the burger because fresh fries are wonderful. Also had the Blue Raspberry Lemonade, very tasty and refreshing!! Like how container was sealed, just poked with straw to open Friend had the Thai Peanut Chicken Salad. Once she got a good fresh one was beautiful and very tasty, warm chicken on side to mix with the Thai Peanut Sauce. Nice large portion. For two to share or save as leftovers. Side note first salad looked fresh but saw a small patch of fuzz on some red peppers on the corner inside of container. This was quickly rectified with a new salad. Service was attentive."

"Two hours later, I received a call informing me that my payment had been declined. Confused, I put the young lady on hold while I checked my account. To my shock, I saw that the restaurant had attempted to charge my card $412.02, which was declined, and then tried to charge another $189. When I inquired about it, I was told that's how the computer system worked. This explanation made no sense, especially since the initial $189 was already marked as paid in my account. A young man, presumably the manager, then took over the call and spoke to me in a condescending manner, demanding that I come downstairs with another credit card. He didn’t take the time to listen to my explanation or check my account details. I had half an hour left to pack for four people and to put our suitcases outside, so I politely declined to go to the lobby. He then threatened to come to my room with security. I spoke to the hotel manager, who promised to resolve the issue. However, I was then confronted by two men, a security guard and the manager, who treated me like a criminal. They were condescending and refused to look at my account on my phone to see what I was seeing. At one point, the security guard threatened to call the police and have me arrested when I questioned the additional charges—$412.02 and another $189. To me, that's theft. This incident reinforces why I prefer not to use credit or bank cards and instead opt for my Wise account, transferring only the amount I intend to spend for the day. I was thoroughly disgusted by the way I was treated. When my husband and brothers arrived, the men suddenly changed their tone, claiming the extra charges were a mistake caused by a computer glitch. To avoid further complications, especially as people of color in a predominantly white town, my brother ended up paying the $189 again. However, the money still hasn't been reflected in my account, meaning we’ve effectively paid twice and I now have to wait for a refund. The entire experience was humiliating; I felt harassed, and my children were traumatized by the way I was treated. There was no corrective action, no apology—just a treatment that made me feel like a criminal. I am truly disgusted."

"Always drive by here but never went in today decided to go in the hostess ask if I wanted to sit at the counter I said no so she took me to a booth then a lady comes over took my order brought me a water I told her what I wanted for the fish and chips it's a early bird special I don't eat alot the coffee that comes with it was burnt and cold she brought me my salad ask me if I wanted a refile on my coffee I said I would like hot coffee brings me the same burnt coffee then I get my dinner the fish was fried way to much the inside was good the Cole slaw with the carrots was good I was two bites away from being done when she finally came over ask me how everything was then when I was done waited 10 minutes she comes back to bring me my box and check they have two different prices for cash and credit card but no sign that says it's a different price I ask the lady that rung me up where is the sign the guy who was standing by the register says the owner has the sign in his office if you are going to charge a different price for someone using their credit card you need to have a sign up by the register not on the check all this time driving by never went in now I know why also if you get any early bird special you don't get everything they advertise I didn't get half the stuff I was supposed to get with it"
