"After watching Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (well, we actually saw maybe half of the movie since the fire alarm drove everyone out of the theater , my wife and I were looking forward to a late lunch at Inferno 's. Having lived in Italy, we always look for establishments with wood-fired and/or brick oven (preferably VPN certified so when we saw this place on Yelp touting wood fired pizza and it 's located in quaint Gruene (is it still though? , we decided to try it out. The place is quite spacious, with plenty of seating indoors and out. As we walked up to the hostess, I noticed their oven and saw what looked like gas flame and what appeared to be a wood or wood-like piece off to the side in flames. Hmm...can this even be considered wood fired? I guess we were committed and upon being shown our table and presented the menu, decided to try out two different pizzas. I chose the 14 Scorpion Pepper Pizza while my wife opted for the 14 Pizza Blanca. We each ordered Diet Pepsi since they didn 't have Coke products. The pizzas, somewhat disappointingly, didn 't have the trademark char and crispiness one expects from a wood fired brick oven...it was typical of gas oven baked pizzas. It also lacked the smoky flavor imparted by the wood. My wife liked the garlicky flavor of her pizza. I thought mine was OK although I liked the spiciness from the Scorpion sauce. The crust, however, fell short of our expectations. Portions were quite ample and we could only finish half of our pizzas and boxed the leftovers. Service was friendly but spotty. We had to flag down our server to get refills for our drinks and the place wasn 't too busy. I always contend that one of the marks of good service is never having to flag someone down to get a drink refill. On our way back to where we parked our vehicle, we were discussing how many stars we should give Inferno 's. My wife advocated for 4 stars while I was leaning towards 3 stars. In the end, with not having Coke products and lapses in service, and the fact that I was willing to give our leftover pizza to a homeless man if we came across one on the way to the parking area rather than take it home, we decided 3 stars is appropriate. Late lunch for 2 came out to just over $52."
