"we were in san diego for a conference and we wanted to eat filipino in a beautiful restaurant. there are many possibilities especially in the national city, but most are steamy, casual places (what the filipinos would call turo turo). this restaurant was a class that all its own and it is in the cool gas lamp district. first line makes it filipino eating accessible for non-philippinic. eating was very nicely plated. I had the crispy fish with the tamarindenbrot a senusitis. the fish (can not remember the name) was actually crispy on the outside and moist in the inner. the broth, cast table side, is nice tangig. the court came with a melange of vegetables including bokchoy, radishes, kartoffels and long beans. my only complain is that long beef, in contrast to the current fad from half cooked vegetables, to tenderly cooked and to be infused with the taste of the broth. the court did not come with tears, but no problem, I stole the bowl of my man who came with his escape. my man had all the fried fish with wine, tomato sauce. I liked this court very much, although some people may be deposed from eating who look back at you. the sweet tomato sauce has compiled the crispy fried fish. I forgot, we also ordered the salt and pepper calamari appetizer with picked paprika. the taste is good, but the calamari are a tad overcooked. to dessert we had the "Halo-Halo", which is really not exactly as the actual. the amount of emigrated to compose this dessert is obviously two kinds of mousse, reis crispy (not so crispy), fresh fruit compot (many knife work involved) and a sweet red bean, condensed milcheis pop. I think the rumor must be fried quickly so that it appears like popcorn. it tasted raw. I appreciate the efforts that were disserted in this, but the "Halo-Halo-" (Mix-Mix) was lost, as the components do not seem to go together. I would rather have sweet bananas and jackfruits in syrup than the fresh fruit. but still I wish this restaurant well."

"About five minutes later, the server approached and asked what toppings we wanted for the misua soup. This raised a red flag; she should have asked this when we placed our order. I also asked her to refill our water, but instead, she just left the pitcher on the table—another red flag. Throughout the experience, I inquired if there was new management, and the server confirmed that there was, mentioning that they had been in business for over a year. As we approached 8:00 PM, I noticed what seemed to be the owner walk into the kitchen (we were seated right next to it) and express concern about why we still hadn’t received our food. The chef responded in Tagalog, saying they didn't have the necessary ingredients, and waved at me dismissively as if I wouldn’t understand. My partner and I were appalled and decided to leave. I questioned why we were being made to wait if they couldn't make the three dishes we ordered. It’s important to note that bulalo takes over an hour just to soften the meat, so the whole situation felt ridiculous. This new management is clearly inexperienced, and it felt like a scene straight out of Gordon Ramsay's "Kitchen Nightmares." I was extremely embarrassed, especially since my partner, who is not Filipino, wanted to try authentic Filipino cuisine, and this was certainly not a good representation. I would never have chosen this place had I known about the management changes and the decline in service. The previous owners had a much better grasp of customer service. My biggest piece of advice is to SAVE YOUR MONEY AND AVOID THIS PLACE."

"Place was pretty good for the type of fare we got at this place. I was with several people so we got the platters (47.00 ea). For the crispy platter the highlight was the crispy pata (fried pork knuckles). Meat was tender and moist from the melted collagen. The rest were the usual deep fried staples. Lechon kawaii (pork belly) was firm and crisp. The fried chicken was kind of dry bit still ok. The BBQ platter was in general pretty good. They were all shared the sweet sugar seasoning and grilled to have some caramelized surfaces on the meat, but not enough to be burnt. We ordered the sinigang na hipon (14.99) (vinegar soup with shrimp). It was perfect for cleansing our palate after eating the sticky and rich platters. Shrimp was boiled just right, as we as the veg. This I would suggest getting. Pancit canton (12.00) was excellent, the best I ever had. It had wok hei and was not soggy like most pancit canton I had. I believe the gravy that usually accompanies this dish was fried in during cooking. Exceptional. The pork sisig (12.99) was fine. I had a few things to pick about it. There was no or little black pepper present; it did plenty of red and green peppers on the plus side. They could dial down on the vinegar too. The most important that this restaurant And most other do is to cook then ingredients more to make the collagen in the ears to dissolve the recipe into a sticky gelatinous mess. Cooking these items took a while. I say about 30 min for the amount of food we had. We tries taking items to go before the closing time of 8 pm on Monday, but the say they could do them even halo halo. Disappointing. In short the sinigang and the pancit canton are must haves. Crispy pata is great too. Just the service was kind of lacking."
