"my wife loves this place. for me eating is good, but average fair. the margaritas, on the other hand, are some of the best. in san mateo of hillsdale blvd. (menlo park is not so good) we always get the top rule, or that is what we call it. they go great with the house made salsa and chips. portions for most plates are generous. they get a good one here."

"I wouldn’t say this is the best Mexican restaurant I’ve been to, but the interior is much nicer than the exterior suggests. I visited on a Tuesday night, and the place was mostly empty aside from the delivery people coming in and out. They have a promotion on Mondays and Wednesdays where you can get three tacos for just $6 (excluding fish and shrimp), and I’ve attached some photos of the tacos and their chimichangas. Our total bill was around $30 for three people, and we left feeling quite full. The food reminded me of home-cooked meals — not fancy, but definitely comforting. The meat was flavorful and well-seasoned, complementing everything else nicely. Overall, it was a great value for the price, especially with a free margarita for a $15 order!"

"I was treated extremely well by our server and other staff with all of my questions answered about food additives during our visit and prior with a phone call and by e-mails. Impressive customer service!! The owner/chef himself even came to my table to notify me about what is in the vegetarian burrito sauce and how the vegan cheese takes longer to melt! Their portions of salsas, dips and tortilla chips are generous, the vegetarian burrito and La Frida Kahlo drink are delicious!!"

"Pollo en crema anyone? This discovery was so delicious. I used to come here many years ago when I worked in Palo Alto. I would always get the shredded beef taco with rice and beans.One day I decided to try Pollo en crema and I was so happy I did. I’m a flavor junkie and this has the best combo of tastiness.It is chunks of chicken breast sautéed with onions, bell peppers, and sour cream. Served with rice and beans, and flour or corn tortillas – whatever you like.The chips and salsa are also delicious and I usually get a container to go. They have a few locations around the Bay Area. Check them out and see which location is close to you!"

"greeted and was seated immediately though from our party were running late (we were total). we were immediately served chips n salsa, which i must say was fresh w/ a nice spice blend. timing was right as we placed our order when our late attendees had just arrived. nice ambiance. seated in area what seemed like a dance room with a dj booth off to one corner. took a while to wave down our waiter for water refills. mexican music was playing which i liked but we caught ourselves yelling over the table and straining to hear each other and had to ask to have the volume turned down. everyone liked their plates. though, when mine arrived it was not hot, seemed it sat and cooled since i was served last at our table noticing too that our neighboring table of was being served at the same time. i had the carne asada enchilada. i picked up what seemed like tendon that was hard to chew and dare not swallow. but over all it was ok. i do plan to go back, however, will try a different dish next time around."

"A lovely place with a good variety of options on the menu. The salsa had a good amount of cilantro in it and was quite delicious. I got the taco salad fajita with chicken, which had a nice creamy cheese sauce and what seemed to be a fried in-house shell."

"As for parking, they have their own lot, but be aware that the street is one-way, so try to find the first available spot. They do offer designated handicapped parking close to the entrance. Regarding wheelchair accessibility, the restaurant is accessible, but I did encounter some challenges with the entrance. The doors are quite large and heavy, and there isn’t a handicap-accessible door opener, which is an important detail for someone in a wheelchair like myself. For service, I opted for takeout. "First of all, these are the best margaritas I’ve ever tasted, and I absolutely love margaritas! There are so many flavors to choose from, but I can definitely recommend the mango, wild berry, cucumber (!!), and pomegranate. Honestly, my friends convinced me to come here because I'm not usually a fan of Mexican food, but Emma changed my perspective. She was wonderful—so friendly and attentive. I really enjoyed the atmosphere, and we plan to return many more times; the 45-minute drive was totally worth it. Thank you, Emma, and the bartender who was working tonight! Also, the host with the white hair created a great vibe right from the start. All in all, we had an amazing time!"

"We ordered a couple of chicken flautas, and they were delicious—crispy with plenty of meat. The guacamole was fresh and tasty. The pastor tacos were also good and well-seasoned. However, the steak tacos were quite disappointing; they had an overpowering beef flavor and a lot of fat. It seemed like they used the fatty parts of the steak without trimming them beforehand. I would recommend this place, but I would suggest skipping the steak tacos."

"I experienced extremely rude service during my visit. I've honestly never had such poor treatment at a restaurant before. The staff was openly disrespectful, with eye rolls and sarcastic remarks. They even suggested how we should have placed our order to make things easier for them. We arrived late, which was our mistake, but they could have simply declined our service. As a former server, I understand that staying late can happen, but I never took my frustration out on customers. This was very disappointing overall."

"I eat seafood almost everyday of the week. I’m very particular about eating out at just any seafood restaurant because I have the real thing at home, but this place was great. First time here and we picked it because it was close by at the time. I enjoy SPICY food most folks when I ask for spicy think adding an extraño Serrano will do the job but this place hit all the right notes. The aguachiles were spicy reminded me of the ones I had in Nayarit. I couldn’t stop eating even after my mouth was burning. 10/10 The staff was friendly , but it was a bit slow. Besides the aguachiles I can’t speak much on the other foods"

"What a surprise.... We came in a warm evening and sat under the window a/c unit. Unfortunately, the a/c was not on them quite warm inside. When we penetrated the menu, we noticed a lot of crumbs and dust on the window bench. Our tables and chairs were not as clean as they should be. We discussed going, but the chips were good and we were hungry. We ordered and were very surprised what came from the kitchen. The presentation of our meals looked like a 5-star restaurant. The Mariscada del Mar was like nothing I ever tasted. Octopus and vegetables in a kind of red sauce that was incredible. I don't remember what my wife had, but she was pleasantly surprised. Hopefully, they will clean things a bit and use the a/c when it gets tired inside. We'll be back."
