"We wanted to go out for seafood and the options at/near Emerald Isle are limited (in our opinion). The Fish Hut is a type of place we normally would not choose, but the reviews said the food was great and the fish was fresh, so we decide to try it as an alternative to our usual place, which has a nice view but expensive, mediocre food (that 's another review). True to other reviews, there was a line out the door-we were surprised b/c we were in the off-season (but it was 6pm on a Friday night). We waited about 15-20 minutes in line (not bad). All of the staff were friendly and the ordering process is efficient. The atmosphere is festive. The outdoor seating looked lovely but we were a larger group and unable to find enough space at an outdoor table, so we sat inside. We were underwhelmed by the food. The portions were surprisingly small, and the fish was bland. We all agreed the fries (fresh, hot, salty) and the fried cheese (garlicky in a good way) were the best parts of the meal. While we were eating it occurred to me that the big draw must be the drinks, which we did not order (b/c a family member has an alcohol problem), so it makes sense that the food is more like bar food. All in all an adventure of sorts but it was not a good fit for us."
