"We truly enjoy visiting Grand Marais, and on our latest trip, we decided to try The Pie Place based on a friend's recommendation. The service was decent, and the location is lovely. However, we were both let down by our meals. My boyfriend ordered the single crab cake Benedict, but there was no indication that it contained imitation crab. It was more like warm crab salad than the crab cake he had been looking forward to, and the egg, which was supposed to be over easy, was not runny at all. I chose an omelette, and it turned out to be quite greasy. The house potato dish was served cold and lacked flavor. We are happy to spend money on good food, but unfortunately, this experience did not meet our expectations. If you visit, at least you can enjoy a nice view of the lake."

"When everyone else in your life may let you down, you can always rely on La Cascias. After all these years, this place still impresses. Everything was excellent as usual. I ordered the steak and cheese, and it was prepared just the way I like it—with nice, fresh bread and the steak perfectly mixed and melted cheese throughout, just as it should be. The grilled onions were spot on. My friend had a burger and fries and loved that as well. I've probably eaten here around 500 times in my life, and I look forward to the next 500!"

"there is both a walnussburger as well as a burger as well as envelopes and a mushroom sandwich. when I went with family and friends, we all got a little vegetarian and different. no errors in the order. the black bohnensalat is also vegan. the bungalow is unfortunately not vegan, so they get the brot instead. if they ask for objects for a vegetarian with a milk and ice allergy they will be very careful to check."

"We stumbled upon this restaurant while visiting Portland and decided to stop in one morning when we were very hungry. We ordered half of the pastry menu and were impressed with what we tried. The quiche was the best I've ever had, with a hearty portion size. As a bread baker with 10 years of experience working with laminated doughs, I appreciated the quality of the dough used in their pastries, particularly in the morning bun. The croissant was a bit overproofed for my taste, lacking the intense crisp exterior I typically look for, but I did enjoy the darker bake which brought out better flavor. The almond croissant was a good concept, but the filling missed the mark for me with a strong alcohol vanilla flavor. The ground almonds were a highlight, and I believe using Amaretto liquor or a high-quality almond extract could take it to the next level. The morning bun was enjoyable, although the amount of zest felt safe to me, likely baked into the dough rather than traditionally buttered and tossed in orange sugar. The service was great, with the server letting us know when freshly baked morning buns were available. The coffee was fantastic, and we will definitely be returning on our next visit to Portland."
