"One of Shelby’s little hidden gems! The building may not look like much from the outside, but don’t let that stop you from going in. Everything is very clean, the staff super professional, and holy cow…the FOOD is GREAT. I had the lamb gyro with fried okra and my husband had the chicken fried steak with the best chips I’ve had in a long time. Everything came out tasting super fresh and piping hot. They have so much variety on their menu, and we will definitely come back to try more things! Definitely recommend if you haven’t tried it!!!"

"I truly enjoy Duchess, but this particular location is quite disappointing. The issue isn't with the food; rather, it's the condition of the facility. The walls, floors, and overall cleanliness do not meet acceptable standards. They might want to consider closing for a weekend to perform a deep cleaning. Furthermore, the Coke Freestyle machine had a musty odor, which is quite unappealing. I would gladly choose the Boston Avenue location over this one any day."

"Everyone was really looking forward to our Big D Burgers. However, after taking a few bites, we all felt that the burgers didn't taste fresh, almost as if the meat was spoiled. In a moment of frustration, we tossed all four burgers out of the car window! Later that night, around 1:00 AM, I woke up drenched in cold sweat and feeling nauseous for about four hours, followed by diarrhea. The next morning, I learned that two of the other three people with me were also feeling ill."

"Ordered through GrubHub two consecutive nights and both nights, items were missing. On the second night, after speaking with a GrubHub representative, I was given a partial refund. Not even ten minutes later I get a call from a man at the restaurant harassing me about my missing items. I didn't pack the order, I didn't deliver the order, I didn't receive what I ordered. Business owners attack good customers, not even looking at who delivered my order and the third party company that is used. Don't worry about me having any missing items from your poorly ran establishment. There are plenty of places that value their customers and making sure they actually receive what they purchase.The restaurant owner has the audacity to reply in the manner that he did, which shows the public he's only trying to protect his name and restaurant. I have photos and screenshot representatives. It's actually the restaurant's delivery drivers that are scamming for the company, GrubHub doesn't deliver for this restaurant. I did not know that but thanks to the GrubHub team for speaking to me and considering removing this restaurant from their service after learning the restaurant has multiple complaints of the same issues."

"Got a foot long hot dog and corn dog. The hot dog was pretty good, especially if you're hungry, but the bread was stale. It was one of those pretty thin hot dogs so not really filling you up. But decent and good prices. The corn dog was subpar. The hot dog inside the corn dog was one of those thick ones that taste almost fake and gummy. Definitely something frozen they throw in the fryer. We had to wait a bit upon entering for someone to come take our order. The atmosphere is pretty cool. Old school hot dog joint style"

"I always try to find great food wherever I go, but today I was very disappointed with my visit to the Duchess restaurant. I have been to many of their locations over the years and never had an issue, but today was a letdown. The service was quick and efficient, but the food was not up to par. The burgers were good, but the onion rings were overcooked and clumped together. The chicken nuggets were also over-fried, turning them brown instead of golden, and they tasted like oil. I asked for a replacement order, but it was just as greasy. The meal was not cheap at $38 for two people, and only being able to eat half of it was disappointing. I hope this was just an off day for the restaurant."

"This is a wonderful little spot in town with a wide variety of sandwich options. I've visited a few times in the past—once during the COVID lockdown when they delivered food to my car and another time for takeout. Yesterday, we dined in, and it was perfect; there were only a few tables available. The portion sizes are generous, and the prices are quite reasonable. We ordered two different half sandwiches (I added bacon to one), a small order of fries, and two bottled root beers, which came to $32 after tax. The staff was incredibly friendly and patient."
