"This place is also called Sankofa's kitchen. Goodness Mercy refers more to the market, but it is the same building. I recently took a trip to Senegal and couldn't stop craving Jolof rice when I got back. My sister has been wanting to try Fufu too, so we went on a mission to find good West African food. There are a few places in Richmond that offer cuisine from different African countries, but the options were limited on a Sunday so we made the trip to Petersburg. The location wasn't hard to find using GPS. Look out for a yellow red and green building. We initially intended to dine in, but decided to take our food to go instead. Although the kitchen area and register were well lit, the dining area was pretty dark and the restaurant was very quiet. Although there were two other people dining in, it felt sort of awkward. They said the food was really good though, so I took that as a good sign. We took recommendations from one of the employees. He suggested the Beef Egusi and the Peanut Soup with fish. We also added on some chicken patties and Jolof rice too. My favorite things were the patty, the Jolof rice, and the Egusi. That was my first time having Egusi and the flavors were phenomenal. I loved the blends of spices and The Fufu was freshly made too. I wasn't a big fan of the peanut butter soup, but sometimes I have a hard time with savory peanut dishes so I think it was just me. Overall, this place gets a big YES from me. The flavors are authentic, the staff is friendly and the food is worth a drive. I would've given 5 stars if the inside was more welcoming."

"First off, the restaurant is no longer called Perry's Caribbean Seafood; it's now Rasta. I’ve had some really excellent authentic Jamaican food before, but unfortunately, this place didn't quite measure up. The food was mediocre at best. I ordered oxtails, rice and beans, and fried plantains, while my husband got jerk chicken, potato salad, and rice and beans. Although the portions were reasonable for the price, the taste left a lot to be desired. The jerk chicken tasted like it had just been drenched in bottled BBQ sauce, and the oxtails were cut quite thin, lacking both meatiness and flavor. The plantains were just okay. I want to support local Black and Brown businesses, but I feel it’s important to share my honest thoughts about the food and service in hopes that the owners will improve. The young lady at the counter was friendly, but she didn’t seem very knowledgeable about the menu, which was a letdown. The restaurant itself is small, which isn’t an issue, but it was quite hot inside. I would love to give them another chance during our next visit, as we’ll be staying in the same spot and the restaurant is within walking distance from the RV park. However, next time, I plan to ask for a sample before making a purchase to ensure I'm not wasting my money. As for parking, it’s very limited, and the building creates a somewhat dangerous situation for turning onto Pass Rd from their parking lot, so be cautious."
