"My experience at La Gamelle started out terribly, and this would likely have been a rather than a review. But this is a story about staff recognizing that they made a mistake, and treating customers like real people. Bottom line: it was great and I plan to go back The bad: We arrived minutes early for our reservation, but we were then passed over or times by other groups getting seated. Each time the staff assured us that our table was nearly ready, and each time we continued to wait. We were finally seated about an hour and a half after our reservation The good: The staff members recognized their error, apologized profusely, and initially comped us a round of drinks at the bar while we waited. When we were passed over again, the hostess came over to us, again apologized, and told us in no uncertain terms that she would make sure we were taken care of. From there, everything was great. The staff was very attentive, and the manager and hostess checked on us repeatedly. They ultimately comped the entire meal, including wine In my view, this is the sort of thing that happens from time to time at a busy New York restaurant. The question is always how does the staff respond. Aida and the other staff members handled the issue very professionally, and we'll definitely be back We split the short rib pappardelle and a ribeye, and also got escargot and a couple other sides. The food was good especially the pasta. And the table bread was great too which is always nice."

"This place is NOT allergy friendly and does not practice integrity with communication around allergens. If you have serious allergies, do NOT trust it. Dinner service was great and the food was as expected for the caliper of the restaurant. We ordered a few desserts to go and I informed my waiter that I had a heavy strawberry allergy. He said it was not applicable to one of the desserts we chose, but he would let the cook know so that they could be sure to change gloves. When I heard that this was part of her practice, it sounded great. When he released the desserts in their To-Go containers, he confirmed that they were taken care of without cross-contamination. Imagine my surprise when I come home and see strawberries on a dessert, I said I don't have strawberries!!!! When I saw that I was lying, I don't feel comfortable eating the other dessert that had blueberries, but no strawberries, because I don't trust what the waiter said about their practices. That could have been avoided if he had just said that they could not put it, as I was told, that before and only choose not to order dessert. It is so frustrating to have wasted money on to-go food after my waiter made it as if they went beyond and beyond. Although my dinner was great, I will definitely not come back because I can't trust this restaurant anymore. If you cannot double check that an allergen I reveal is not present on my food after you give me verbal insurance at 2 different times, I do not trust that you follow one of the procedures you claim."
