"This is far more like fine dining than Diner would suggest. This weekend we were here 3 times. Dinner Friday, Breakfast and Dinner Sunday. We were hosting out of town guests and brought 3 different groups to Chit Chat...foodies, children, fussy eaters and those with allergies and big appetites ALL VERY SATISFIED. The food is spectacular here. Fresh, delicious, generous portions. Whether you 're coming for breakfast (which I 've done multiple times), a working lunch or a relaxed dinner the Menu and Specials do it all. There 's not only something for everyone, it 's always consistent, delicious, hot and there will be leftovers. Our son loves the fig and gouda burger. I 've recently tried their chicken and waffles and their fried chicken is absolutely delicious (the individual bottle of syrup a sweet touch)... but so is their gyro platter, with THE BEST Greek fries EVER. They often have a roasted chicken that 's exceptional too. Their French onion, Chicken Noodles, Creamy Mushroom and Matzoh Ball soups are DELICIOUS. This weekend was the first time I gave their bar a try. My Mai Tai was perfect (and strong), my cousin 's jalapeño margaritas was sweet, spicy, salty and sour delicious. Saving the best for last. Service. These servers work their tails off. They 're attentive, fast, efficient, and terribly friendly. On Friday, we got there an hour before 2 others from our group. Our server paced accordingly. He never rushed us and he gushed with appreciation when our tip was tripled to accommodate for a table that could have turned over twice in the time that we were there. Bussing tables is an art, one part attentive to snag dishes as they empty without being too pesky. Their reach is always right, careful and comes with a thank you. I 've never had a bad server. I 've never had a mistake with an order. Sunday night we were a big group everyone got what they ordered, same time and fast. The hosts have a tough job since there 's usually a bit of a wait... they 're friendly and fast. And, the owner is hyper vigilant and exacting... making sure everything is right, perfect. And, that 's the recipe for a place where you keep wanting to return. It 's a bit busy, the decor... but eclectic and fun. Think, Alice in Wonderland fell into fine dining. The view. Hopefully you get a window seat on a clear day!! Yes, go try it! Vegetarian options: This is my go to with vegetarian friends. Vegans even. There 's always a couple options on Specials. And, the regular menu has plenty to choose from... you 're not just stuck looking at salad. Dietary restrictions: We had 2 guests one with allergies, one elderly with specific needs. They 're CAREFUL about allergies, checked each time the question was asked. My elderly Aunt raved about how perfectly they prepared to her specifications. Kid friendliness: Kids love this place, the vibrant colors, the activities left at the table, the view. The food options!!"

"Let me begin by saying we've lived in Saint Augustine for 5 years and have always loved this restaurant. It has always been in our top choices for fine dining and a location we recommend to tourists and locals alike. However, we have not been there ourselves in awhile. Never again. I have no idea if it's changed hands or simply decided to not just rest on its laurels but destroy them. Our unpleasant experience started at the courtyard entry. It was a chilly night. However, this is not the type of restaurant where one expects to be greeted by a hostess dressed for a snowball fight, complete with wrinkled clothes, casual snow jacket and red stocking cap. It was our 29th wedding anniversary and my husband made the reservations 2 weeks ago and requested a table befitting the occasion. The courtyard hostess never took our name for the reservation, merely took us to the inside hostess area where again our name wasn't taken. There used to be an extremely gracious women manning that and in general overseeing Front of House. What we got was a very sour, unfriendly woman whom we later discovered is the owner. Again our reservation was not checked and we were marched to what has to be the worst table in the house without the least bit of polite conversation. We were seated in a small back room three feet from a back door that truly should only be set up for an emergency exit during business hours. Every time that back door would open we were blasted with cold air and had to keep our coats on. There was also an unpleasant odor that lingered. I smelled bad seafood, my husband smelled sewage. Our server was adequate and nothing more. We were rather surprised with the much less creative menu and higher prices. However, based on past experience, happy to pay the higher price. The wine list continues to be a great value and the wine presentation was lovely. That was the end of lovely. The loaf of bread was undercooked and doughy. We sent it away but were not offered a replacement. For an appetizer we shared baked brie en croute. The cheese was poorly ripened and cold. The fruit was oxidized. We each had one bite and sent it back. Again, it was not replaced but it sure was on the check. While waiting for our salads I decided to see what was on the other side of the exterior door we were seated near. As I suspected it was an alley area complete with all the trash storage in close proximity. It also smelled like there was a problematic sewer line. I returned to our table where our wilted salads had now arrived. We looked at each other and decided it just was not worth $200 to sit there cold with a noxious odor. We asked our server to cancel our entrees and bring our check. Considering we had barely drank any of our wine, we should have had the offer to rebottle and bag it. But we had to ask twice for that while suggesting the management should be aware of our dismay. It took over 15 minutes to get our wine and bill so I'd left my husband and walked out to the front to get fresh air. I was standing outside the courtyard entree on a public sidewalk. Some tourists approached to look at the menu and specials board. They asked me if I had ate there and I replied yes and it had not been a satisfactory experience. Ski jacket hostess must have heard me because NOW I had the attention of the proprietress I should have had before. She came out of the courtyard yelling what was my problem, to leave the vicinity and told me she was going to call the police on me. I informed her in very polite language that I would not be leaving the public sidewalk until my husband joined me from paying the check and getting the wine. But to please feel free to call the police as I was not doing anything illegal and in the unlikely event they did respond, it wouldn't be me whom looked foolish. I was in utter shock as was my husband when he exited and we walked down the street. It was so absurd that it would be funny if this little experience hadn't cost us $75 without even having a full meal! La Pentola not only lost a loyal diner, they gained two people who will go out of their way to steer others away from that establishment. A pity."

"I went there for a second time. The food is okay, but they cut the catfish in three sections before frying it. So when you got a piece of catfish it was just 1/3 of what a whole catfish piece would be normally. That is being very cheap. I liked the restaurant the first time I went there, but once the catfish got small, I was no longer satisfied. I did have a lobster tail that was very good. That was the best part of my last visit. I think they should serve a whole piece of catfish and raise the price a little bit. But don't get skimpy on us. Also the waitress we had at the beginning of our meal was not very friendly. We had to ask for napkins and other things. She acted like She either hated her job or she didn't want to serve African Americans. It could have been a little bit of both. Maybe she was having a bad day. But she should not have shown it. Our second waitress was wonderful. She was very attentive. Why we had two different waitresses, I have no idea. The one that seemed to be having a problem was gone after giving us plates and drinks. I would still go there again but I would focus on a lobster tail and crab cake next time.Kid-friendliness: There were many kids there. They seem to love it. They had high chairs and everything for them. They made it look like it's a fun place to be. Almost every other table had children sitting there.Wheelchair accessibility: I believe there was a ramp for a wheelchair to get inside. They would just need help with the door when going in the restaurant."
