"This was probably the worst dining experience I've had in a very long time. The pad Thai was sour and completely inedible. I actually rushed to the bathroom to try to throw up right after eating. My food arrived all at once within just five minutes, which I’ve never experienced before, especially with sushi. The drink I ordered was weak, though it was priced appropriately. If I hadn't thrown up, I would still feel sick right now. I absolutely do not recommend this restaurant—better to skip it entirely. While the waitress was pleasant, the overall customer service was lacking. I felt rushed from the moment I sat down until I left."

"POSITIVES: Don 't let the name fool you, this place is chock full of options besides sushi. Whether it 's curry, rice, noodles, teriyaki chicken, a bento box, or a variety of ramen, this place offers lots of satisfying options. The appetizers are equallytempting : edamame, calamari, gyoza, takoyaki, etc. As far as sushi goes, this place nails it with a blend of great flavor andawesome presentation. I ordered the colorful Playboy roll (fried shrimp, salmon, tobiko--tiny fish eggs, and jalapeño andthe Phoenix roll (tempura shrimp, eel, avocado, salmon, jalapeño, green onion, sesame seeds, teriyaki sauce, and spicymayo. . This roll was unlike anything if ever been presented with at a sushi restaurant...trust me, it is very exciting andworth every penny. The Japanese decor and theme is very friendly and inviting. The waitress was extremely polite andknowledgeable. Also, the mochi ice cream is fabulous, and you can 't go wrong with it. NEGATIVES: the menu was covered ingrease from someone fingers... Not sure if the material just attracts grease really easily or something... Also, there was aBOGO 50% off for all sushi rolls... I only ordered 2 rolls myself (one was $15ish, the other would have been about $7 with theoffer , and I somehow still walked out paying $30, aside from tip. Still not terrible, but not what I had expected. PRICE:expect to pay $15-30 per person depending on how much food you get. VERDICT: it was a fun experience, and I 'm definitelycurious about some of the other sushi rolls (and curry! It 's love to come back, but given the price, I may have to wait untilmy work takes us out so it 's on their dime."

"Cute unassuming sushi spot that isn't too busy! The server was kind and open to answering all my questions about what was and wasn't gluten free. I got the sashimi mix with steamed rice and didn't have any issues. The fish itself was fresh and for the price, I was satisfied with the portions. The chefs were also receptive about cleaning the cutting board and knives for my meal. This is definitely going to be my go-to neighborhood spot for sushi now. "We came to this place with a large party since we were in the area. Reviews weren't the best but we decided to give it a try anyways. We can now see why the reviews for this place are not so good, and can confirm the bad ones are very true. When we saw this place on Yelp, we liked what we saw on the menu. There was a good variety of ramen and sushi so we were looking forwarding to giving it a try. We called ahead for our large party and we're told they could accommodate us if we came. We decided to try it out. When we arrived with our party, we were told by the owner that they only had chicken ramen and a little bit of sushi from the menu. First off, what kind of restaurant would only have a few things on the menu available? And wouldn't you tell that to people who called before they drove to the restaurant so they would know what to expect?We discussed amongst the group for a few minutes and then decided we no longer wanted to eat there since we didn't want chicken ramen and whatever they had left over for sushi. While we were discussing, one of the kids in our group used the restroom thinking that we were going to eat there. Apparently, the owner yelled at the child and demanded that she pay $5 for using the restroom. First off, there were no signs posted saying the restroom was for customers only. Secondly, we were going to eat there until she told us they didn't have any food so why would you deny a child bathroom access and then yell at the child and demand $5 for using the restroom. Lastly, when my wife went in there to see why she was demanding $5 from the child, she told the owner to stop yelling at and addressing the child because she was a minor. The owner continued yelled at my wife saying the bathroom was for customers only (even though there was no sign), and demanded $5, and then proceeded to yell at my wife and tell her it was her fault the child was so rude and would use the bathroom even though she wasn't a customer. At this point, we just were in shock. How can a person like this run an establishment to service customers? My advice is to stay away from this place. The owner is rude and unstable and they don't normally have what's in their menu."

"Quality really depends what day of the week you order, sometimes the food isn't amazing, but other times you get what you pay for and then some. Would recommend. "Pretty good sushi and teriyaki chicken! I ordered from here and got a couple sushi rolls and a teriyaki chicken bowl with rice. There was a decent amount of teriyaki, only one scoop of rice though. The sushi was good! But overall it was very expensive for what you get."

"This is a once in a lifetime dining experience not to be missed! We were there with family and had decided to try out a new popular spot in town it has had a positive buzz going about it for quite some time. We were not disappointed! Every single item on the menu was gorgeous in presentation and a culinary delight. Our bartender, Denae, was attentive and creative with selections, particularly knowledgeable regarding both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. My husband was thrilled with his Chef's Choice sashimi dish and the rest of our entrees were also delectable.Parking: While never ideal, this restaurant and it's surrounding area does have better parking options than most places. Because it's not directly on the grid and it has its own parking lot which many Sacramento restaurants do not."

"It's too bad. I came on Saturday at about 12 noon and there were 3 seats at the sushi bar and two tables open and the greeter told me there were no seats for me. The single diner at the end of the sushi bar had already ordered and was eating and he told me 2 other people were joining her. And he said that the tables were reserved. I went back to my car and took a phone call and over the next 30 minutes one couple left and one couple entered.It's too bad. There food is very good, but I will never be back. I guess the greeter does not understand the life value of a customer. Who knows, maybe it was the owner."

"Let's start with the atmosphere. Shima is a small gem tucked away off a main street, and it's only open in the evenings, which adds to its mystique. Inside, you'll find a stunning modern design with a dark theme, featuring influences from various cultures while still maintaining a distinctly Japanese vibe. The highlight for me was Taka, the executive chef. He is incredibly friendly and kind without being intrusive. Yes, things may take a little time at Shima, but good food deserves patience, and the wait is quite comfortable in my opinion. Over the past two years, I've tried a wide variety of sushi, and Shima remains the best. I can't even begin to describe the perfection of the flavors—just go and try everything! You won’t regret it. I've also delved into their Hawaiian menu, although I haven't explored it as much. It has a warm, comforting quality, reminiscent of home-cooked mac and cheese, and is definitely worth trying as well."

"There was a pretty decent selection of sushi, however, that meant not many pieces of each group. Therefore, it ran out very quickly and took quite a while to replenish. Ironic that they give you a 90 minute time limit; much of your time will be waiting for the sushi. There was not too many seafood dishes, either. So, the price for an AYCE sushi and seafood buffet was inflated. Quite deceiving as I could did not get “ all I could eat,” as I got tired of waiting. I attempted to speak to some staff, who could not understand me, nor I, them- language barrier. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this restaurant."

"I had a delightful experience during my visit to this restaurant. I took my daughter there since she's a big fan of sushi, and our usual sushi place was closed. Although I'm not typically a sushi enthusiast, I must say it was absolutely scrumptious! For anyone who shares my hesitations, they have lightly seasoned fish options, and with the variety of delicious toppings available, you can create a fantastic meal. You can also keep it very low-carb by choosing zucchini noodles, cucumbers, or greens as your base; they also offer sushi rice and brown rice if you prefer. I would give this place a perfect 10 out of 10 and will definitely return. The prices were very reasonable as well. We ordered medium bowls, and I'm just over halfway through mine and already feeling content. The staff was incredibly friendly, eager to answer questions and offer suggestions, and the service was quite prompt."
