"Oh the greasy goodness that is Gumba's pepperoni pizza. I was in the neighborhood and stopped by Gumba's for the first time since COVID. I'm actually surprised it's still here, more on that later. Gumba's has been around a long time, I first remember going here as a teenager back in the 90s. The food hasn't changed and that's a very good thing. The pizza is one of my absolute favorites, like electric chair last meal candidate favorite. A few tricks: don't eat the pizza immediately, as good as it looks you need to wait a few minutes for the grease to settle into the crust where it becomes something very close to New York pizza in texture. Also, they have honey in your standard squeezie bear bottle, and this pizza crust is fantastic with it. The family enjoyed their other items, kids had spaghetti and cheese ravioli respectively, each with butter and a side of marinara, their mom had a spinach salad with prawns she inexplicably added, along with cheese sticks and garlic bread, all excellent. I had myself a Chianti and my partner a Prosecco, both very good if a touch pricey. Especially for a Sunday night, service was excellent, we had a very attentive waiter and busser continuously checking on us. I got the feeling that the waiter wanted me to upsell me on a fancier pizza, but it had been so long that I just wanted my standard go to. So the last time I had been here was probably about five years ago and back then it seemed like this place needed a renovation. I don't think it got it. So yeah, it's not exactly the cleanest place to eat, but the food is so worth it. I imagine rents are quite high on Murphy Avenue so I can't fault the owners for not doing much to update the place, but it does desperately need it. In any case, I hope to get out to Sunnyvale again soon and get some more fantastic pizza and other great food at Gumba's!"
