"I like this place, but both times I have gone, service, timing, and availability of food have been pretty poor.First visit- around 5pm on a Friday night. Server informed us they were out of the appetizer we ordered, and when my husband ordered the salmon, the server said he had to run to the kitchen to put it in because there was only one salmon dish left.. when everyone was on their second beer order, we were informed something had happened to the beer taps and they only had bottles. The food was fine, but nothing notable. The latest occasion visiting was for brunch, which i understand they have only recently started- it seems there are a lot of kinks to work out. Our appetizers came out in a timely manner, but we wanted an hour and a half for our food- and our server was no where to be found. We also noticed that other guests also had no food on their tables and were looking around too, seemingly for their server. Our party ordered mostly toasts, salads, and yogurt parfaits- nothing requiring major cooking time. We also had babies in the party and certainly wish they were at least served their yogurt, as babies aren’t going to stay seated waiting that long to be fed. Since server was not visible, we were unable to order any second rounds of drinks or coffees while we sat waiting. The food was fine when it finally came out, and no apology or any recognition from our server as to what took so long. Don’t think anything there is worth going back for"

"We visited Lou's today, having been told in the past that this was a nice place to dine. That could not have been more untrue; quite the opposite. Perhaps a new owner took over at some point, and the place has now become substandard. When my party and I entered the restaurant, we noticed three staff members chatting with each other near a table at the back. They saw us but continued to chat without acknowledging us. Eventually, one of them approached us and directed us to a small table in a dark corner. When we asked to sit at a more desirable table, she agreed, and we were seated there. We were not welcomed into the restaurant; instead, menus were left on the table, and the employee walked away, never asking if we wanted anything to drink, etc. After that, we waited about 15 minutes before someone came by to take our order; as the minutes ticked by, we talked about leaving rather than staying to dine there. In the meantime, we watched various employees standing near the kitchen or chatting with others before someone finally came over to take our order. The server, having taken our order, took off without allowing us to place a beverage order. So we waited yet again before being allowed to order drinks. It should be noted that after we were finally served our iced tea, there was a point when we requested a refill, but that never happened. We tried to flag someone down, our server or the busboy, but we were rebuffed. After a few minutes, our drinks arrived, followed by our food. However, the two side dishes we ordered were not brought to the table simultaneously. When I inquired about the missing side order of toast, the server seemed annoyed. When the toast finally showed up, it was only half-toasted; one half of each bread slice was toasted, while the other half was untoasted white bread. The ham and cheese omelet was unlike any I've had, as the cheese was placed on top (two thin slices of American cheese) of the omelet rather than being placed inside. The little ham inside lacked flavor, resulting in a bland experience. As requested, the hash browns were crispy but lacked discernible flavor and were oddly shaped like a perfect rectangle. My wife ordered a side of pico de gallo, composed of mostly diced pieces of tomato, which was basically flavorless. To sum it up, our food lacked flavor, and the service was inattentive and lazy. Many restaurants in our area offer the same type of menu, restaurants where we are treated well and attentively, and the food is good. We won't be returning to this place."

"We came to BOUDIN for lunch one afternoon. We all know BOUDIN for their sourdough bread but never knew that they actually had a place to eat. We walked inside and saw that they sold all kind of take home items. When we travel to new places, I'm always looking for items to bring back to showcase where we have been. It was nice to see those kind of items. They had like a cinnamon bread, sourdough chips in both jalapeño and sea salt. We got a few of the chips to take back home. On their menu they have sandwich and soup combos, sandwich alone, or pizzas. My daughter had a pizza and my husband and I had a sandwich. I had the chicken pesto sandwich and my husband had the pastrami melt. My daughters pizza was really good. The pizza was made of sourdough crust and it really went well with all the other toppings on the pizza. I think that was my favorite out of all of ours. My sandwich was okay. It was kind of a cold kind of sandwich and the bread to me was hard. But I guess I'm not used to that so much because it's sour dough bread sandwich. I liked my husbands one and we ended up trading actually. His was a hot sandwich that pressed together the pastrami and bread and cheese. It had some slaw on there (which I normally don't like) but I thought it worked well together. I'm glad we got to try this place. And I hope that next time we can try their chowder and their bread bowls."

"We flew into Sacramento for a family reunion in the Vallejo/Benicia area, and stopped by the Nut Tree Complex in Vacaville. We were cruising through the shopping center, looking for something that sounded good to both of us, when we came upon Boudin. This has been a long-time favorite over the past 30 years, both in the SFO airport, which, sadly, is no longer there, and, down in the Fisherman 's Wharf area of San Francisco. So let 's get right to the review. The two of us each ordered the classic clam chowder in a bread bowl, and decided to share a side order pepperoni pizza bread because we were both pretty hungry. As always, the chowder and the bread bowl were perfect! You just can 't beat Boudin 's sourdough bread bowl for flavor, the lightly crispy crust, but soft and chewy inside, with just the right density. We asked for extra butter for our bowl top that is cut out to make room for the soup. Both the ladies at the register and the servers were very friendly and helpful. But here 's the real sales pitch: on our way back to the airport three days later, we stopped in again for lunch. If you knew my wife, you 'd know that is just never done. But because our first experience was so positive, she was more than happy to stop in again. You just can 't get Boudin anywhere else, so how could you pass up an opportunity to have it again before heading home? This time, we both took advantage of the pick-a-pair option, and added our own Grilled Brie with Apples Fig Jam accompaniment. It was a great choice!! You just can 't go wrong here. The breads are fabulous, the soup is perfect, and there are so many other delicious salad, sandwich, and pizza options."
