"As one of Sunnyside's most well known fixtures in the dining scene, Arriba Arriba is already impressive for how long it's lasted in the community. They provide a festive take on the Mexican food experience, which usually includes loud music, strong drinks, and plenty of party friendly food. One thing that used to trip me up about this joint was how dark it was, both the day and night. The interior is quite small, which probably helps amplify the often blaring music and contributes to the pseudo intimate vibe. There is just enough seating for small'ish groups and a handful of seats at the bar. During good weather months, they'll have the door and windows open for a pseudo al fresco feel. I know they're among the bizes that stay open the latest on this side of Queens Blvd. Food wise, it's pretty average at best. I'd probably consider at least a dozen Mexican spots in the neighborhood before giving Arriba Arriba a look. The prices are also a semi-deterrent, but as long as expectations are tempered, it's not all terrible. I think some easy wins are the chips guac and the churros ice cream dessert. Everything else I've tried (steak, tacos, quesadillas, wet burritos, enchiladas, burritos, etc. has been less than memorable. I think where they really excel is their drinks and it shows. The bartenders pour some mean booze into every cocktail. It's potent, colorful, and even worth a good pic for the internetz. The margaritas are a great way to start, especially the watermelon one. I am also a fan of their mojitos and am almost always down with a michelada. Service can be lukewarm but the best bet for indoor action are almost always at the bar. Being next to the bartenders was almost always a good time. I know their takeout and delivery game went next level with the pandemic and in that sense, I'm glad they're still able to stick around and keep things interesting in the hood."
