"On a sunny Sunday afternoon, we decided to try Kate's for lunch for the first time. The weather was lovely, so we chose to sit outside on the back patio, which featured a large smoker from the restaurant's earlier days. While the menu wasn't extensive, it offered a variety of tempting options. Since it was Sunday, there were also some intriguing items on the brunch menu. My wife opted for Rosie’s chicken salad sandwich, which was simple yet delightful. The nine-grain bread was fresh and perfectly toasted, and the chicken salad was vibrant and full of flavor. However, the standout dish was the brunch shrimp and grits. The waitstaff described them as "Southwestern Style Shrimp and Grits," and that perfectly captured the dish. It had just the right amount of spice to get your attention without being overwhelming. The Gulf shrimp were large and cooked beautifully, and the combination of spices, cheddar grits, bacon, and other ingredients was exceptional. Overall, it rivaled any shrimp and grits I've had in New Orleans. In short, Kate's had a relaxed and friendly atmosphere with a modest patio, but the food truly took center stage. We can't wait for our next visit!"
