"This is, without a doubt, the worst Peppas location I've ever visited. I've been here twice since I work in the area, but honestly, after my first visit, I shouldn’t have returned. The prices are extremely high (I get it, it’s the city), but the owner should understand that with higher prices come higher expectations.
The atmosphere is nice with great music—definitely has a dancehall vibe. However, you're immediately greeted with poor customer service: no warm welcome, no smiles, just nothing! Getting a recommendation from the staff feels like pulling teeth.
When the food finally arrives, the portions seem decent at first, which feels like a small victory. But on two separate occasions, I’ve been disappointed enough that I felt compelled to take time out of my workday to write this review. After my initial experience left me cautious, I decided to play it safe and order the dish they’re known for: the jerk chicken, without any sides—just the chicken itself.
Unfortunately, it was both stale and dry, as if it had been sitting under a heat lamp all day. (By the way, it was all dark meat, which I usually love because it’s supposed to be more moist.) Every single piece disintegrated. I initially thought that the rainy weather might have slowed down the business, leading to food sitting around too long. However, for a restaurant with a decent reputation and multiple locations, there should definitely be protocols in place to ensure high standards are maintained, even on slower days.
I won’t be spending another dollar at this Lower East Side location. I really hope they make some improvements because it has the potential to be a great spot."
