"I grew up in the Northeast, where diners run by Greek families were pretty much a given. Not so here in the South... or so I thought. I just had to look a little harder in order to discover this gem of a Greek diner in a storefront. To me, Benetis is a Greek Diner because it is run by a Greek Family and serves traditional Greek and Mediterranean foods, such as Moussaka and Gyros. I've been there many times, mostly for breakfast. I can highly recommend their Eggs Benedict. Benetis is NOT like a Greek Diner because they are not open 24 hours a day, seven days a week except Christmas. That's okay. Also, unlike a traditional diner, Benetis has no counter; tables only. I tend to be a people watcher. At times, especially weekday mornings, Benetis is host to large groups of senior persons, who really seem to enjoy having a place like this to go to to meet up with their friends and chat over a good meal. The first time I was there I felt an instant attachment. The hostess was friendly and spent a bit of time with me. I also witnessed something I've never seen at so-called chain restaurants: early one morning when the wait staff arrived, the hostess hugged each of them. Later, when more customers began to arrive the waitstaff hugged them! I should mention that on weekdays Benetis offers a Mediterranean Luncheon Buffet for a very reasonable price. People really seem to go for it. Benetis is located together with other eclectic venues in the Greenwood Commons Shopping Center along NC Highway 55 at Sedwick Road in South Durham. They're open for breakfast and lunch, from 7:00 AM until 2:00 PM, every day except Tuesday, including weekends."
