"I wish I had taken the time to write a review previously. We have come here quite a few times and used to enjoy it. Today, after a longer break, it was an absolute disappointment. 1. Service: it took a long time to get seen and seated but the manager was the best of staff we saw. We have a child with a disability, so when we go out, we like to sit outside, to have space and minimize risk of disrupting fellow diners. We chose to sit outside and they failed to offer us one of the working heaters until we carted one across the veranda ourselves because kid 2 started to get blue lips. Service was VERY slow. It took a long time to see actual food. When I asked if we could have a handful of more chips to finish our guacamole, it was denied and then not mentioned again. I chose a salad with SHREDDED chicken and when, after a long time my food arrived, I was handed a salad with big chunks of dry chicken. When I asked our waiter whether it was supposed to shredded (IT SAYS SHREDDED ON THE MENU), he just yelled NO!! And then didn't follow it up with any other comment. It was so random and unfriendly, I'm still trying to shake the feeling that they didn't like us for whatever reason. 2. Food: HORRIBLE. Thin tortilla chips as a starter you should look through. The chicken we were served was dry and so rubbery and chewy that I didn't even want to take it home. A side of strawberries for the kids was absolutely mushed. Penne in marinara was a tiny cup of microwaved pasta and they charged us $2 extra for a tiny cup of strawberry mush. When I asked if kid 1 could have strawberries, too, out came another cup of mush. Oh yeah, and my husband's pasta plate had a stain on it. 3. Cheque: there were some random surcharges. I believe we were charged 1$ for the kids tap water and then we had 2 bananas on there for a dollar each. The waiter dropped the card reader at our table and when I tried to ask him about these surcharges, he disappeared. After a few minutes, I took it inside but the lady at the counter could work on it, so our waiter had to be called back. I grabbed a menu to show him that my chicken should indeed have been shredded and he just huffed and puffed an apology out and hovered long enough over my shoulder to check what I was tipping. I'm usually on the side of staff and I like to tip well and eat rubbish food if staff is nice but this was the first time ever that I didn't want to tip. (Not) surprisingly, when I put no tip, the bill jumped up an additional $3. Marmalade Cafe today was an absolute disappointment. It has gone way downhill and service and food were awful. On a side note, the waiter gave our disabled kid a side eye, so maybe he had a problem that we were out and about having a nice time. Not worth the money and shoddy treatment. There are plenty of wonderful restaurants around who love our business."

"So LRoth and I randomly wandered in here one night after some Christmas shopping. They were decently busy so we got seated on some high tops at the bar. The place is cozy with eclectic decor in a good way not a cheesy knick knack way. The pork belly burnt ends were amazing. Tender and flavorful. Pairing with pickles helps cut through the fat and savoriness with acidity. We also tried the poutine fries. Gravy had amazing flavor. Fries were crispy. Lack of cheese was not an issue. We tried the Thanksgiving sandwich and the fried chicken sandwich. Turkey was a bit dry on the Thanksgiving sandwich, and it didn't hit with a ton of flavor. The fried chicken sandwich was delicious. Great crisp with great flavor in the breading. Corn bread with the butter was fantastic. Mac and cheese was so creamy with a night crust. We did come two days later. Tried the pulled pork sandwich, which was amazing. Juicy and tender pork with great flavor. We also got shrimp and grits. Grits were creamy but the sauce/gravy to grits ratio was too high. Definitely needed more grits to thin out the sauce. We also got a side of biscuits. These were okay. A bit heavy on the breading and not as crumbly as I would've liked. Felt more like bread than a biscuit. For dessert, we got a chocolate pecan pie. So flavorful without being overwhelmingly sweet. Over all, a place I'd recommend trying!"

"As always, the servers and staff at Match are top notch. We are regulars. My son in law's parents came to visit from Sault Ste. Marie, and we decided to go to Match for happy hour and then back to our place to watch the Superbowl. Ask me how impressed I was to arrive, be seated, and then to be told there was no happy hour that day. NOT IMPRESSED. We go almost weekly for happy hour. It is held EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. It is your establishment and you are absolutely within your rights to decide not to have a happy hour. What was NOT ok, was that there was no prior warning. I initially made the reservation on line no warning there. I called the restaurant itself to amend the reservation several days prior, discussed the fact that it was Superbowl Sunday and why we were coming (happy hour) no warning then either. I am assuming that you value your regular customers, and when you decide to do something like cancelling your regular happy hour, there should be SOME notice given, especially if and when reservations are made. It is a reasonable expectation that you have happy hour daily (you advertise such) and it is also a reasonable expectation that when you cancel something that draws your regular customers, you let them know. Our waitress, Olivia, was wonderful and very apologetic, although it was NOT her fault obviously. She tried her best to recommend drink specials, etc. that could help make up for the lack of happy hour and we very much appreciated that. You have a great establishment, and one of, if not the best, patios in Sarnia. Yet, you continue to make decisions that make it hard for your regulars to continue to patronize (I have many many examples if you wish to hear them), and you also do not make financial decisions to capitalize on the gem that you have. Match Eatery should be THE place to go in Sarnia, you have the facilities and resources available. Experiences like what happened to us yesterday will definitely taint our willingness to come and bring guests."

"Terrible experience as for food. Showed up with reservation booked several hours in advance and then interrogated about when we booked and made to feel lucky they reluctantly actually gave us a table. Reminiscent of a bad Seinfeld episode. Ordered 1 course only, took well over an hour. Randomly sent some appetizer very rich, greasy, unhealthy- all carbs and greasy fried stuff we can't/ don't choose to eat due to dietary restrictions . Would have been nice if they apologized for ridiculous delay and asked what we would like in the meantime. A lot of people are gluten intolerant these days and or just choosing not to eat heavy greasy fried food. Going on 9pm with 7:30 reservation and no edible food...we asked our absolutely delightful server 6 stars for her how long? Food arrived shortly thereafter as we were seriously about to hit Burger King which is a supreme act of desperation on my part. My husband liked his duck entree. My cavatapi was severely undercooked, and portion was priced as main, size was appetizer. I'm 110 female, just for context. Been here before... give every place several chances before I post. We want our local restaurants to do well! Unfortunately, I can't recommend this place. 3x now. The menu is too unhealthy, like in an out of touch kind of way. And this is my field.... I'm an rn foodie with dietitian and French expertise. French is not the best if you want heathy but try La Coquille or La Framboise if you must have French. They have adapted. Our server was the same lady every time, sorry we didn't get her name. But she was excellent, absolutely excellent. And the reason we came back.3x, after previous dining experiences fell seriously short."
