"Our first issue was with the HVAC in our room. While the room was lovely, the air conditioning was producing a significant amount of moisture, which left the space feeling damp and musty. Our bed felt wet, and my husband's sandals were soggy after being placed near the vent. We spent one night there, hoping it would improve, but we woke up with sore throats, leading us to address the issue, even though we typically avoid complaining. The front desk seemed aware of the problem, which was frustrating, but they did move us to another room, which was problem-free. However, we had a miscommunication about the bellhop timing, so we ended up having to pack all our belongings ourselves before they arrived, which was annoying given our short stay. Additionally, one of the bathroom sinks wouldn’t drain, though they fixed it quickly; these are minor details I wouldn’t expect from Belmond.
Another issue we encountered was with the pool service. During our babymoon, we planned to lounge by the pool all day, but for some reason, the staff neglected our side entirely. My husband managed to get only two drinks during our six-hour stay, and he was only approached once for service. While he wasn’t looking to drink heavily, we generally expect more attention when lounging poolside. We did manage to place a food order around lunchtime, but they forgot one item, which we no longer needed by the time we realized it was missing. Breakfast service was also lacking; although our waitstaff were friendly and the food was good, they appeared overwhelmed by the small number of guests. My husband asked three different people for hot sauce for his omelette, waiting 20 minutes to receive it, by which time the food had gone cold.
It's difficult to pinpoint exactly why our experience fell short, especially since the staff was well-meaning and pleasant. Perhaps my expectations for Belmond were too high, or maybe we encountered some bad luck for the price we paid per night. My husband and I talked at length about our experience while trying to be fair. There were positives to highlight, including the generously provided babymoon cookies and Belmond-branded water bottles, and I must reiterate how wonderful everyone was. The valet service was top-notch with our electric car.
I don't usually write reviews, but I felt compelled to share our experience, especially since we weren't asked for feedback at checkout, nor did we receive the promised survey. Consequently, I wanted to leave this review a few weeks later to help others set their expectations. I likely wouldn't have felt the need to review a property that charged less per night."
