"time the last time we'll go here. I made reservations on Open Table, got to the restaurant, there was no reservation. I showed the hostess my email confirmation she said they haven't set up Open Table on their ipad yet, only Yelp she also said she could transfer it over, whatever that means. We DID NOT earn points for using the ap by the time she seated us I just let it go cuz we could hardly understand her not very good English. Everything just got even worse from there! My chopped salad was full of red cabbage, hardly any greens the dressing was so sweet I couldn't eat it all. The ceasar salad had no dressing on it the lump of dressing that was brought to us tasted like mayo a ton of anchovies, it was awful! The minestrone soup tasted like it came from a can, was not offered any cheese nor did it come with it on it. So, we're thinking how much worse can this get. OMG! Lasagna was full of cheese, big globs of it. Husband asked if they could do a chicken fettuccine with creme sauce, angel hair pasta mushrooms. It was so bland. No amount of saltpepper graded parmessan cheese made it any better. They charged us for it to. We are so disgusted disappointed! The only good thing was our server, but the other wait person was running back forth to his tables he was waiting on, which was pretty distracting. I'm not kidding! He ran the whole time! Never have we seen a wait person running. There was no reason to. There will be no second chance"

"The six people served by the waiter enjoyed salads, which our waitress didn’t even mention to us; we’re unsure if they were included with the meal or available for an extra charge. Then, one meal arrived approximately 15 minutes before the others. The waitress stated that the rest of the meals would be out soon, but I couldn’t help but wonder — don't we all have two hands? Eventually, the rest of the table received their food, with all six people at one end served before most of us on the other end. After serving the meals, our waitress disappeared, and we had to stop her to inform her that two of us hadn’t received our orders. Her response was a nonchalant “Oh, I’ll check on that,” with no apology whatsoever. When she returned, she had to ask those two what they had ordered again. One of them couldn’t remember the name of her dish and requested a menu, to which the waitress replied that she didn’t have one — yikes! Thankfully, their meals arrived relatively quickly, but by then, the rest of us had finished eating. Meanwhile, the six people with the good waiter had already received their checks and paid before we even got ours. Our waitress eventually returned, saying she had misplaced her order book and needed to know again what we had all ordered. Seriously? Then she went to write them up in the back and finally came back with our checks before disappearing again. We decided it would be best to pay cash if we ever wanted to leave, as it was unclear how long it would take her to process a credit or debit card. I don’t know how long this waitress has been at Toscana, but it seems she is either in the wrong profession or desperately needs more training. She didn’t refill drinks at any point, but thanks to the attentive waiter on the other end, we managed to stay hydrated. Not once did our waitress apologize or offer a complimentary dessert or discount for the inconvenience — absolutely nothing!"

"Second time here was even better than the first! Via Roma is a lovely, quaint Italian restaurant along Northwest Highway with indoor and outdoor seating, an expansive yet well tailored menu of classic dishes, and a great atmosphere. Perfect for a date night or meal with a few friends/family. Visited on a Tuesday night with my mom. There wasn't a wait and we were seated immediately in their nice outdoor area along the side of the restaurant (on weekends it does get busy and reservations are not accepted, so get there early or late to avoid a wait! . Our sever was the best I've had in awhile at any restaurant; very courteous, professional, and attentive. We were brought bread, olive oil, and grated parmesan along with waters. Via Roma does not serve liquor, but does encourage to bring your own and will provide glasses and corkage for FREE (unlike some other Italian restaurants of a similar size and style . Their menu is not vast, but has all of the essential pasta, risotto, and antipasto dishes one could want. They also have a rotating specials menu that contains some interesting takes and combinations of the basic noodles, sauces, and meats. This is where we both drew our dinner selections from. I had a pesto gnocchi with chicken and sundried tomatoes. This was easily one of the best pasta dishes I have ever had. I've had gnocchi both times I've been here and would be happy to get it every-time in the future; They are fluffy, light, and delicious. Equally good was the pesto cream sauce, which was ample with great flavor. My mom had a calamari linguine in a simple garlic butter sauce. The pasta was tender, and while the sauce could have used a bit more character, the calamari was beautifully tender and the best she's had. We rounded off the meal with a large cannoli, coffee, and tea. The cannoli had a good, hard crust with plentiful pistachios on the ends, and was filled with velvety smooth filling. I was especially happy with the tea, as I was presented a wooden box containing ten varieties of bagged tea packets for me to choose between, a rare but simple touch that went a long way. Via Roma is a excellent Italian restaurant that I would HIGHLY recommend to anyone. It atmosphere inside is lively, albeit a bit loud on occasion, while their side patio utilizes its narrow space and only two rows of tables along the walls to make you forget you are in suburban Chicago (at least until the Metra goes by . I cannot wait to come back here and try more of the creative Italian dishes on the menu, or just indulge in more of the same pesto gnocchi; It's really that good."
