"We began with the Parihuela (Seafood Soup) priced at over $20. The broth was decent, but the other ingredients were lacking. The diced potatoes felt more like a filler than a genuine addition, which detracted from the dish’s overall concept. The calamari rings seemed prepackaged and typical of many Peruvian restaurants, coming off bland and chewy. Overall, the Parihuela was average, earning 3 stars. Next, we tried the Peruvian Paella for $20. Traditional paella, originating from Spain, involves a careful, time-consuming preparation with saffron and authentic components. This green variation would likely disappoint true paella fans, as rice dominated around 85% of the plate, with peas and carrots making up the small remainder. This dish fell short on every level, deserving 2.5 stars. The ceviche, at $18.50, was the highlight. Although there was some disagreement about whether the fish was truly sea bass, it stood out as the best of the three dishes, rating 3.5 stars. Lucuma Ice Cream, priced at $6 each, is common everywhere but was tasty and refreshing here, warranting 3 stars. Chicha Morada, a traditional purple corn drink, cost $3.50. The water was fresh, and the restrooms were well-maintained. Service was friendly, though notably, no Peruvian staff were present during our visit. Many diners seem to enjoy this spot, but it felt somewhat removed from authentic cuisine. Overall, I’d give the restaurant 3 stars."

"I really wanted to like this place and give them grace. With a wife working in the restaurant business during the pandemic I get the challenges associated with being short staffed. And I should have read the other 200+ reviews on Yelp before visiting. I came in with a plan to work on my computer while waiting for my son at swim practice. I planned to order the nachos and the special Tuesday $5 margarita. I walked in (feeling something strange) and waited/wandered around for about 10 minutes trying to find a host. I finally stopped the only server I could see and asked her for a seat. She told me that I could sit anywhere. That's when I realized what was strange: I couldn't easily find a table because there were 8 tables sections completed covered with used dishes and old food. Obviously people had left but because of the way the tables were organized I only had three tables to choose from inside and four outside. I found a spot and then had to wait nearly 15 more minutes until the server came. I even had to go get my own menu from the hostess area (but no host was there). That was also when I realized there was only one server. When she finally arrived with complementary chips and salsa. I told her I wanted the nachos and the $5 margarita. I specifically asked if the $5 were running this Tuesday and she told me yes. The chips I realized had been sitting in an alcove in the back they were cold and soggy like they get when there's too much oil and they cool off. I ate a couple then stopped because I knew I was getting nachos. When the nachos came after one bite I realize the same old chips were used. I had to grab the server and apologized for the inconvenience but asked for another plate of nachos with new chips because they were cold and soggy. She told me they couldn't only that they could add more cheese and beans. I also asked for the wireless password and what she told me didn't work but I just gave up on that. When I finally asked for the bill I saw that I'd been charged for a large margarita and asked her to change it. She said it was because I ordered the large. She told me the $5 one was the smaller one. I asked her if she remembered me asking for the $5 one to which she said yes and then said sorry and didn't change it. I've been to the Casa in Orland Park and had extremely different/great experiences. This location in Hinsdale was extremely disappointing. When I left three more tables were left unattended and mine, I imagine, made 4. A person had came out to bus a table but left the bin at the table and walked away. I give two stars and a 20% tip only because I have sympathy for the 3 person staff and everyone has bills to pay, but I won't come back again."

"I was so disappointed by the changes to this new Palenque or whatever the name restaurant I thought I would offer some details. If it does not convince the owners to find a way back to the old Mezcal of themselves, perhaps my bad review will convince them when guests and revenue begin to fall. It will happen... 1 The place has NONE from the same ambience. The new ambience does not work because THERE NONE is. Combine this with a terrible floor plan and bad seating. 2 If this place is marketed as an upscale, bring me a damn menu. I asked and was told I had to scan the QR for it. I guess if I don't bring my phone, I'd have to go somewhere else. Just stupid and greedy. 3 I had to ask for chips and salsa? We had 6 people at our table and a single bowl of chips and not refilled. Yeah, I know that's a little problem, but the details, man. The details... ANNEX The food variety: I couldn't say it. I had to see it on my phone. Do you know how hard it is to take the spirit of a cook by scrolling? I really don't think it's the same offer as before. It looked like typical Mexican food. Nothing special. At least what I could say. If I had a menu... 5. The food: NOT SPECIAL more. What once Mezcal was brilliant is exactly the same stuff I can get anywhere. If you want Mexican food, you will find places closer to you than this... and... 6 It will be less expensive elsewhere. In my party, 6 peeps, 4 adults and 2 children, 2 cocktails. About $170. Why Mexican food? Not raised. Not even close. Nothing special. Bad seating. Greedy. Mezcal new restaurant, RIP:"

"It's been over 3 yrs since I've been here and my husband and I wanted to check out a different vibe as we were in the area. Highly recommend this spot for seafood lovers and to grab a drink and chill. There's nothing special or fancy about the place which makes for a solid casual environment. The restaurant is bright and gives a stop in for lunch kind of atmosphere. The menu has a ton of options! I can't imagine not finding something at all! It took me 10 min to decide. We tried the tacos Al pastor, margarita flight, cucumber jalapeños margarita, and the ceviche trio. Drinks were well made, refreshing great price for value. Portion and prices were very reasonable for the pocket. Ceviche was not the best I've had but I liked the variety. I didn't walk away loving any of the combinations but it wasn't bad. The aqua verde maybe was the top but the shrimp was not cured long enough for me as it was really still raw. The others lacked a wow factor for me and I love ceviche. My husband enjoyed the tacos with adobe sauce but wish they had regular beans for non pork or meat eaters. I wanted to try the gobernador taco so bad and they let me get one. I was expecting something with a lot of flavor but it was just normal. Cheese, shrimp and my taco was a bit soggy. I will compliment the size of the shrimp on these plate. They are large. Staff was very friendly, helpful and they all showed teamwork. I would go back but probably for a quick lunch bite only."
