"We were quite frustrated when we found two small children playing in the pool table area, one of whom was swinging a pool cue around. This made it impossible to continue our game without the risk of being hit. We tried to stay out of the way while other patrons politely asked the adult with the children—who we were told was the owner's wife—not to allow the kids to play in such a dangerous area. She dismissed their concerns, explaining that they were the owner's children, and allowed them to continue disrupting the game.
We never even got the chance to start our game because the child with the stick came too close for comfort. When I approached an employee to voice my concerns, I was informed that it was the owner's wife and there was nothing they could do. One employee even agreed it wasn’t safe but shrugged it off as "you know how it is."
Two patrons even stepped outside to discuss the situation with someone who seemed to be associated with the restaurant. Ultimately, we decided to cancel our game and leave, feeling upset that our safety and enjoyment were clearly not a priority for the management.
Customer service has noticeably declined since our first visits to this restaurant. While we have enjoyed some good times here in the past, I doubt we will return anytime soon. Owners of Whelan, it's essential to prioritize your customers—after all, they are what keeps you in business.
On a positive note, if you do decide to visit, I recommend trying their pudding dessert; it's quite good! Just be cautious of those swinging pool cues."
