"My husband and I visited Sparks on Valentine’s Day. I found that it looks much fancier in the photos and does not have a cozy atmosphere. Right off the bat I felt somewhat misled as our waiter only offered us a prix fixe menu and...brought us the regular menu only when we specifically asked for it. While we were waiting for the food, our waiter spilled hot water on a gentleman sitting at a table next to ours. Thankfully, we were only mildly splashed, but the poor guy at the other table needed ice for his burn. The food was equally disappointing. I ordered a kale salad, which, according to the menu, was supposed to have mandarin slices in it. When the waiter brought the salad and I realized it mainly consisted of kale with some cucumbers and tomatoes, I inquired about it and the waiter only responded he did not notice any mandarin slices in it while serving it for the past two months. Certainly would not have ordered it, had I known. As I am quite sensitive to spicy foods, I specifically asked whether the paella is spicy and was told it is not. It ended up being quite spicy, so I asked to take it back and have it redone. In response to that, the waiter initially said that it “only has black pepper” and then repeated several times that it would take a lot of time to have it redone, suggesting I order something else, forcing me to insist. In retrospect, I should have taken his advice as the redone paella was not tasty at all. On a positive side, my husband did enjoy his steak. During that disaster of an evening the restaurant also had entertainment in the form of two winged latin dancers that danced as they walked around the tables (I am unsure whether it was a Valentine’s Day special). To me, the “show” was quite painful on the eyes, super awkward. I do not recommend this place and would certainly not return."
