"Been wanting to try this place for years after reading about it some time back and I finally found myself in the area. I had made a reservation well in advance and would suggest you do the same. I found using the GPS was helpful. Ample parking on site. Nice rustic charm with a genuine friendly staff. Immediately upon being seated I followed the advice of our server and ordered the mesquite-a-rita, I found them extremely more-ish because after the first one, l just kept ordering more. We started off with the jalapeno bites, the cream cheese maintained the right consistency and didn 't leak through the crispy cooked bacon wrapping, while exceptional, we found trying to eat the entire plate was an overwhelming challenge for two people. The wife ordered the chopped blue cheese salad, while l ordered the green chili hominy. We equally enjoyed both. While she enjoyed her mesquite grilled chicken, l enjoyed the peppered strip. Both were prepared superbly and we shared and sampled both. We also shared the bread pudding for dessert. The whiskey, pecan and sour dough flavors blended into a real one of a kind treat. Our taste buds were in food heaven. We had fantastic service, our service was attentive but never to the point of being remotely annoying. Based on what we had previously read, we went in expecting great food with good service, instead we were truly treated to an exceptional dining experience where we enjoyed culinary cowboy treats and never needed anything but bigger stomachs. I 'd highly recommend visiting this establishment. But don 't visit just for the food, visit instead for the entire experience. "Embark on a gastronomic adventure to The Salty, an extraordinary donut shop nestled in the heart of Austin, that dares to challenge the very essence of French patisseries with its innovative approach to the humble donut. Not just your average bakery, The Salty elevates the donut to an art form, offering a symphony of flavors that could easily command a standing ovation in the most prestigious of Parisian cafes. With each donut priced at a premium of $5, it's tempting to balk at the cost until you realize these aren't mere donuts; they're meticulously crafted pastries that deserve to be savored like the finest of desserts. This realization transforms the experience, making each bite a luxurious indulgence that justifies every penny. Our journey to The Salty was so spellbinding that we were compelled to return not once, but twice in less than 24 hours. It's a testament not only to the irresistible allure of their creations but also to the culinary excellence that The Salty represents. Each visit unveils a new layer of flavor, a new twist on tradition, and a fresh opportunity to fall in love with their confections all over again. On the dawn of our second pilgrimage, anticipation filled the air as we ventured forth, eager to discover what morning delights awaited us. This time, our adventure led us to the enchanting realm of their kolaches, a testament to The Salty's culinary versatility and creativity. I chose the jalapeno and sausage kolache, a masterpiece encased in a delicate yeast dough that whispered tales of tradition with every bite. Brushed with an egg wash, it boasted a crispy shell that gracefully surrendered to a slight pull, revealing a soft, airy interior. The dance of the jalapeno's subtle heat with the well-flavored sausage created a harmony of flavors, culminating in what can only be described as the perfect bite.My husband, ever the culinary adventurer, opted for the Terry's Black Brisket and Queso Kolache, which shared the same exquisite dough and egg wash as my selection. The brisket, smoked to perfection, nestled within the dough, was a revelation in every sense. Its rich, savory flavors melded beautifully with the creamy queso, creating a symphony of taste that was hearty yet not overpowering, leaving us satisfied but not overly full. The Salty isn't just a donut shop; it's a destination for those seeking to transcend the ordinary and experience the extraordinary. With food that undoubtedly ranks as top tier and well above average, it's an adventure for the taste buds that promises to leave you enchanted, satisfied, and perhaps a little more in love with Austin than you were before. It's a vivid reminder that sometimes, the most memorable journeys are those that take place on a plate, one exquisite donut or kolache at a time.Note: we went back again to bring a box of churro star, cinnamon, dolce de Leche donuts home with us"
