"bialys remain such an underrated yet delicious simple bread in NYC. too often getting overshadowed by bagels. thankfully places like Kossar’s exist and still make bake bialys from scratch each day. yes, Kossar’s has a wide variety of bagels, but nothing is quite like a warm toasted bialy with butter or cream cheese. while there’s a lot of elaborate breakfast sandwiches at Kossar’s, the toasted onion OR garlic bialy with plain cream cheese is a classic. 1) it is warm, 2) bialy is amazing bread 3) the schmear of cream cheese is heavenly and 4) put it all together and you have a perfect bite of fat, comfort and carbs in true New York style. also it is definitely less half the calories of a bagel with a schmear. life can be both delicious and simple without being a complete calorie bomb. Kossar’s has been serving bagels, bialys, sandwiches and more for over 80 years in the Lower East Side. while times have changed, the quality and consistency at Kossar’s has not as evidenced by its constant patronage by locals and out-of-towners alike. i can’t speak to the coffee, other breakfast sandwiches or anything else that Kossar’s serves as i normally grab a bialy sandwich and find a quiet place to eat, read, and people watch. the staff at Kossar’s is friendly. the interior is clean and well-maintained. and the vibe is still very Lower East Side."
