"**Sunday Supper at Sullivan's** We had reservations, but upon arrival, we had to wait a few minutes to be seated. Not a big deal at all. Our server, Tiara (apologies if the spelling is incorrect), greeted us warmly and took our drink and appetizer orders before heading off to bring a bottle of wine. Although the service was a bit slow at times, the restaurant was quite busy, so we appreciated the opportunity to enjoy our cocktails and appetizers. We started with the Beef Wellington Bites, which were incredibly savory, featuring tender meat encased in puff pastry—a fantastic way to kick off the meal. We decided to skip the salads and go straight for the main courses. My wife, a huge fan of crab cakes, ordered those and was thoroughly impressed. I took a bite and found them to be overflowing with crab meat, enhanced by just the right blend of spices. The shredded Brussels sprouts were also a hit, bursting with flavor and generously topped with real bacon bits. The only hiccup of the evening occurred when the runner accidentally dropped my wife's order, and mine didn't arrive at all. We thought she would return shortly, but nearly ten minutes went by without any sign of her. I encouraged my wife to eat while we waited, but she felt guilty leaving me out. Eventually, a different waitress passed by, and we asked her if she could check on my order. It turned out that it hadn't printed due to a software glitch. My steak arrived shortly after, along with sincere apologies from our main waitress, the passing waitress, and the manager, who kindly comped my entrée. Mistakes happen in any business; it’s how they are handled that counts. I was very impressed with their response. I had ordered a strip steak cooked rare, paired with blue cheese and pork belly, and honestly, I might never enjoy a strip steak the same way again. The pork belly was the perfect rich complement to the lean beef. The steak itself was cooked to perfection—succulent and juicy. In fact, I would say it was one of the best steaks I've ever had, even compared to a well-known steakhouse nearby. Typically, with a mix-up like this, I would leave feeling dissatisfied, but thanks to their excellent service recovery and the quality of the food, it turned into a memorable dining experience."

"A friend and I were planning to visit Oakland Cemetery (just across Memorial Drive from the café for a scavenger hunt. We opted to meet here beforehand for lunch. We had planned to park in the cemetery's parking lot, but there was some road race which restricted access to the north side of Memorial Drive. Hence, we ended up parking on street a block south and a few blocks over from the café. The market itself has a small lot, but it seemed mostly geared towards market patrons. I *assume* you could park there while you grabbed a meal at the café also. The lot seemed to fill up quickly, though. We met there at around 11:20 a.m. on a Sunday. you enter the market from the side doors (i.e., not those facing Memorial Drive . To your left is the café area. A line forms to order at a counter. There are menus available in a basket for you to peruse while in line. It was at this point that we discovered that breakfast was still in progress. Lunch didn't begin until noon. We opted to do the first zone of our scavenger hunt and return. We got back just after noon. Ordering was quick, though we somehow did not end up with a little metal table tag. One of the entrees arrived fairly quickly but mine seemed to take longer for some reason. They managed to find us even without our table displayed. The staff seemed friendly enough. I had ordered a BLT and a side of fries. The volume of fries was larger than I expected, actually, but they were good. The BLT was fine. I found the bread a bit odd it was not dark but tasted a bit of rye. To me, that wouldn't be the standard first choice for BLT bread, but it wasn't bad. I don't think I underwent a full conversion to being a BLT on rye guy, though. At the end, you bus your table and drop off plastic trays over at a station near the drink machine. Prices were fair. Overall, this is a good option if you aren't looking for a particularly heavy meal (as you might get in some of the other restaurants facing Oakland . I'd consider a follow up visit."

"My husband I dined here recently and did not have a great experience. There were a couple of people at the host stand a worker, maybe the manager, walking by had greeted us when we walked in so I had a good feeling. The hostess grabbed menus walked away, turned around (after we started following anyway) said “follow me”. We sat down watched other tables be sat shortly after us. No one came for about 5-10 minutes. Didn’t bring us water (other tables had gotten water and bread). We had coupons for a couple apps. We ordered those and waited. Still no water, we drink water like crazy. We ordered cocktails, water finally came. Ordered food, my husband’s water was empty and he asked for a refill a couple of times. A gentleman with a pitcher came around quickly, barely looked our way I watched him as he filled up not one person’s glass. We were frustrated. The waitress returned shortly after we ordered to confirm how my husband wanted his steak. Didn’t think much of it, we both ordered the 3 course meal which came with set options. Our cocktails took a long time to come as well. Food came out my husband could not quit raving about how big his “8 oz” steak was. The food was decent, his steak didn’t taste very seasoned but it was cooked well to his liking. We got our bill noticed our waitress didn’t acknowledge the coupons, also up charged his 3 course meal. We looked again at the menu online, it says you can upgrade to bigger steaks, etc. When waitress came back for the bill, we asked about apps, they were removed. My husband inquired about the upcharge, non-defensively. He said something like, was the steak actually 12 oz? Bc we were fine paying the upcharge if that was the case but wanted to confirm/make her aware. The waitress paused and started with “you….i should’ve asked”. So inappropriate. I watched her take ppl’s bills while they were still sitting, did us the same. Had to inquire about parking validation-bar staff was nice helped take care of."

"Still, I was waiting for my cornbread. I mentioned that I never received mine, and while we were asking for things, she kept storming off. Once we finally had our meals, we needed condiments, and she went to get them one by one. At this point, my party felt uncomfortable asking for anything due to her body language and responses. Our water cups eventually got filled again, but our original server didn't return. By the time we were done eating, our bill was $232. We placed the money in the receipt book and waited for our server. After about 30 minutes, as we were leaving, I flagged down another waiter and asked him to make sure the older lady received our payment. He took the money and said okay. While my party was outside discussing our next move, the owner came out and claimed we hadn't paid. I went back inside to show who I had given the money to, and the entire restaurant was watching. I reiterated that I gave it to her. The owner looked at her with a look that seemed to say, "Why didn't you tell us they paid?" Did we receive an apology for the lack of communication? No, we didn't. And we will not be returning. Additionally, despite adhering to the dress code, we noticed that at least four other guests were not following it. The dress code stated no ripped jeans, sweat suits, or baseball caps, yet we saw several people flaunting those rules. The 45-minute drive for such treatment was definitely not worth it."
