"This was my second visit to Spiaggia. I came on Valentine's Day 2020 with my boyfriend. We had reservations at 9:15pm and were seated around 9:45pm, which did not bother us. I received a call from Spiaggia two days prior to our reservation to report any food allergies or dietary restrictions. I let them know that my boyfriend is allergic to tree nuts. Upon arrival, our waiter had to ask about any food allergies or dietary restrictions and did not seem aware of the previously reported tree nut allergy. He also did not seem familiar with which nuts are included in the tree nut family. Again, not a huge deal, I knew the chefs would be familiar. We ordered: Zuppa di funghi (without pine nuts) very creamy, good texture Tonno vitellato one of my faves! Gnocchi delicious Spaghetti pomodoro I prefer mine with more sauce, was a little dry Cavatelli Cervo was served to us with WALNUTS For a Michelin Star restaurant, I expect better attentiveness to food allergies. Thankfully, the walnuts had not touched the venison loin and my boyfriend was able to enjoy that but he could not eat any other part of this dish. We are pretty laidback and did not feel the need to send the dish back and wait for a new one. Our waiter apologized and offered us dessert or after dinner drinks but we were far too full and tired to stay longer as it was now close to midnight. There were no changes made to our bill. Again, this was okay but I expect better customer service for a potentially life threatening mistake than a free scoop of gelato. Luckily, my boyfriend always has his epinephrine pens on him just in case. Overall, we still had a good experience and enjoyed the food. The service was better the first time I came to Spiaggia in July 2019, however, it was less busy as it was not a special occasion. I will likely not consider Spiaggia as a first line option for dinner next time I am in Chicago."
