"The basket also contained a variety of lovely cheeses, highlighting a fantastic feta that, while crumbled like traditional feta, had a luxuriously smooth texture. Its mild saltiness and creaminess perfectly balanced the heat from the Shishitos. I glanced at the menu and decided to order the Greek salad. I learned that the delicious feta cheese comes from Kourellas, a top dairy producer in Greece, known for its high-quality organic ingredients that are perfect for Mediterranean cuisine. The Greek vinaigrette was impressive as well, lacking the overpowering vinegar tang that I often encounter in other dressings. We opted to add grilled chicken for just $4 more, though you can also choose crispy chicken, shaved ribeye, or shrimp to complement the Mediterranean theme. Tavern On The River also crafts pizzas using a fermented dough that takes 36 hours to prepare, and it’s baked to perfection by owner Jordan. The crust is crispy on the outside while remaining soft and chewy in the center—an excellent result from the extended fermentation process that enhances both its texture and flavor. If you enjoy spicy food, don’t miss the Nashville Hot chicken sandwich. This sandwich is definitely not for anyone who prefers mild flavors. If you can’t handle the heat, steer clear of the Nashville Hot from Tavern On The River’s kitchen! It packed some serious heat, and I absolutely loved it! This has quickly become my favorite sandwich in St. Joseph. The chicken, brined in buttermilk, was incredibly juicy with a fantastic crispy coating, complemented by sweet and spicy pickles, crunchy lettuce, tomatoes, and Louisiana mayonnaise—all topped off with Nashville Hot sauce made from roasted red fresno peppers. Even Jesus would choose this over a Chick-Fil-A Spicy Chicken Sandwich! The atmosphere is very family-friendly, so bring the whole crew along!"
