"I highly caution against visiting this place due to its overly protective owner. I purchased bagels from Layla (just two sandwiches) and over $50 worth of bread (five loaves) from Jyan Isaac. To my dismay, I was told we couldn’t sit at their EMPTY tables to enjoy our sandwiches and the baguette we had just bought. While I understand the need for policies to protect paying customers, it would be beneficial for management to allow staff some discretion and flexibility to enhance customer service.
The strict no outside food policy, especially when we are paying customers at both establishments and ALL tables are vacant, comes off as petty and reflects poorly on the business. I cannot support an owner who doesn’t appreciate their customers enough to let them enjoy the products they just purchased in a comfortable setting.
Additionally, during a conversation with the manager, I learned that even if we had bought the bread from their bakery, it was still classified as take-out, meaning we wouldn’t have been allowed to use their tables. The owner also needs to recognize that we wouldn’t have purchased any bread from their bakery had we not initially gone to Layla for lunch. This competitive stance toward neighboring businesses is shortsighted and will ultimately drive customers away."
