"Our family has always enjoyed Salt. We booked dinner here while our daughters were back in town from university, and were all looking forward to it. We’ve been to several restaurants during COVID and know the routine of showing our proof of vaccination and our...ID. For some reason the manager couldn’t scan my QR code and became quite aggressive and condescending, not just in front of my family but in front of another group waiting to be admitted. I explained I’ve never had a problem with my QR code being scanned and that I was just at a restaurant that afternoon with no problem. Asked that if his machine couldn’t scan my code, could he simply read the information himself to verify that I’ve been vaccinated and he lost it, accusing me of risking his liquor license. So I dug up my pre QR code proof of vaccination, which I luckily enough still had. He read it and was ok with this version not needing to be scanned; and finally let me in with the rest of my family. I was so offended by the way he treated me though that I lost any desire to dine at Salt and we left after being seated despite having driven over an hour to get there. We were fortunate enough to get a spot for 5 at another highly rated restaurant nearby. I showed them my proof of vaccination with QR code, they just read it and let me in. I asked them isn’t it a requirement to scan the code. They said no, similar to what I’ve also experienced at other restaurants some of whom scan the code, some of whom just read the information to verify I’ve been vaccinated. Clearly the manager at Salt was just choosing to be difficult. COVID has been very stressful for everyone, particularly those in the restaurant industry. We’ve supported our favourite restaurants throughout the pandemic and have always shown full respect for the rules and staff when dining. Respect should apply both ways unfortunately the manager at Salt doesn’t believe in respect for the customer. We were happy to take our business elsewhere that night. Not only have they permanently lost a group of repeat customers because of this manager’s behaviour, but they have also lost a real advocate for their restaurant."
