"July, 2023 visit Best jelly donuts anywhere. All other donuts are top notch! My wonderful wife and our daughter took the Amtrak to Chicago for college orientation. Since the train takes about an hour to get from Downtown St. Louis to Alton, we decided I'd drop them off and pick them up at Alton. After we dropped them off, I drove with our dog around... we grew up in Bethalto, and some of the area looked familiar. and then... I saw it... MISTER DONUT!!!! I hadn't been there since the 1980s... AND that's ok... because we were there then and now... on a Sunday morning in June, 2023... nice! I picked up six that Sunday morning and while watching the Cardinals thankfully defeat the Cubbies in London, our son and I enjoyed comparing the jelly and raspberry jelly donuts so similar and yet so different. : I cannot fully describe what makes Mister Donut's jelly donuts so unique, but I can definitely confirm that there is something extra special about Mister Donut's jelly donuts... the exteriors have a special something that is unique and wonderful... so wonderful... and then the powdered sugar... Later that Sunday afternoon, I also enjoyed a burger on a blueberry cake donut, for lunch... so tasty! (yes, inspired by the Gateway Grizzlies baseball team . And then the six donuts were gone... and the feeling of a warm belly and the feeling of the emptiness of the donut box conflicted with one another. ; When the dog and I picked up my wife and daughter, I drove a short detour, to show them Mister Donut, and we were fortunate that Caesar and another Mister Donut team member were there making donuts for the next morning. I knocked on the the window, and they thankfully welcomed me. While they were out of jelly donuts they had a box of day old donuts which I happily purchased (enjoyed by our son at the office the next day . And Caesar graciously shared two FRESH FRESH FRESH glazed donuts... they were like liquid sugar... sooooo good and smooth... I am so happy that Mister Donut is still open and that the team there is so good and friendly. I look forward to seeing you again, soon! Places like Mister Donuts deserve a 5+, or a 6, on the Yelp 1 5 scale. : : :"

"Stumbled across this place and kinda glad I did! Here was my experience.AMBIANCE:Parking: It's in downtown thus parking can be a bit tough. You got street parking and plaza parking.Seating: Not really. Just a grab-and-go place.Feels: Downtown Chicago so it's a hustle and bustle place. There are other eateries and hotels in the area but if you want dessert, this is a nice spot. The place itself is relatively simple. They have a drive/walk-through window if you want to order but you can go inside too. The place is relatively simple and clean. Not much of a place to hang around but just get your order and carry on. FOODEggnog Donut (Recommend)Too bad this was seasonal. A delicious donut with sweet icing, soft dough, and a pleasant eggnog custard feeling.Chocolate Truffle Ice Cream (Recommend)Delicious! Smooth, creamy, and chocolaty! What's great is they add a small donut hole to compliment the sweet creamy delight.CUSTOMER SERVICE:Awesome! Friendly and quick with my order.TL; DR OVERALL:4 Stars. Awesome! Good choices, delicious donuts, and all for a reasonable price. I've had good donuts before and this one makes the list. I'm curious about trying other donut local shops but for a historic and comforting one, this is a safe choice.TIPS: Firecakes was a baked good back in the day consisting of water, flour, and salt being cooked on a rock or over fire. OG location"

"I really hate to give a bad review to a small business, but Shane 's Donuts was a disaster. It 's not the employees (who were super welcoming and friendly), it 's the product. Nobody wants depressing donuts, but that 's what I got here.Up early and headed to nearby Dinosaur National Park, we thought why not treat ourselves to a box of donuts. I like to support small local businesses, and Shane 's fit the bill. Tucked away in a plain Jane strip mall with no fancy sign or surroundings, I figured their donuts would speak for themselves. Well, the sure did and not in a good way.We couldn 't make up our minds and opted for a 6 pack so we could take a bite of each and have a variety. The donuts on display looked really tasty, and the store already had a few old timers having their daily breakfast sweet. You could tell they were regulars and locals, this isn 't a touristy place. We picked three different flavors of glazed donuts, then three different filled donuts. The donuts were good and tasted fresh and soft, but the oil was old and needed to be changed. That 's always strike one when you bite into a donut. The glazes were good but overly sweet, and the yeasty dough was light and fluffy. What a shame the old oil ruined the flavor. I 'm docking them two stars for this. What brings Shane 's Donuts down to the dreaded one star rating is that ALL THREE OF THE FILLED DONUTS were completely empty of filling! No cream or jelly in ANY of them. I was doubly disappointed because we paid extra for the specialty filled donuts, but none of them had filling inside. I guess somebody messed up, but the staff needs to pay more attention to quality control. I paid extra for AIR! See photos of my sad, empty donuts.Since we had a full day planned at the national park, I couldn 't turn around and complain or get the items replaced. By the time we got back to town, they had closed for the day, and we left early the next morning.I would avoid Shane 's Donuts, or at least take a bite of the filled ones before you leave the parking lot. I am super disappointed, and I won 't be returning to Shane 's when I visit Vernal again."
